Dermatix C is a topical silicone gel with ester C (stable form of vitamin C) that creates an invisible barrier over the damaged area. Under its protection, scar tissue is remodelled and reduced. Dermatix has also been successfully used to manage scars resulting from trauma, burns and surgery.

Dermatix has been shown to flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieving the itching and discomfort as well as reducing the discoloration associated with scars.

Silicone gel is the choice of plastic surgeons worldwide. A recent publication by the International Advisory Panel on Scar Management, a group of skin specialists, recommended the use of silicone gel for the treatment of a wide variety of scars. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons have used silicone gel as an effective treatment for scars for many years.

Unlike other scar treatments (e.g. silicone sheets, intralesional stroids etc.) Dermatix – because of its unique gel-formulation – can be applied to all areas of the skin, including the face, joints and flexures and dries rapidly to form an invisible “sheet”.

For silicone several mechanisms of action have been proposed in scar management:

• Partial-occlusion and hydration of “stratum corneum” (uppermost layer of the epidermis, see illustration below)


• Protecting the scar from infection and environmental stimuli


• Static-electric field induction effect – in order to repel the specific cells that promote scar growth

   Useage

Dermatix gel is very simple to apply and should be used twice a day:

   Optimal contact with the skin is important for efficacy



2. Clean the area to be treated with mild soap and water, pat dry
   Most skin irritation due to occlusive patches occurs from maceration* or poor hygiene
   *Maceration: when the skin becomes pale, moist, wrinkled and soggy, such as when a plaster has been on for too long



3. Gently spread a very thin coat over the affected area
   To ensure that Dermatix self-dries in 4–5 minutes



4. Allow to dry for 4–5 minutes before covering with make-up
   Allows for discreet scar remodelling



5. Dermatix dries partially as a result of the temperature difference between the skin and the gel.
   If Dermatix has not dried within 4–5 minutes, you have applied too much – remove the excess and allow the drying process to continue.
   Faster drying time in warmer weather can be achieved by keeping Dermatix in the fridge before application. In cooler weather faster drying time can be achieved by a medium-to low temperature setting on a blow-dryer.
