I think I am going to try Clinique City Block SPF 40. I hope it's not too rich/heavy and does not cause breakouts! |

hey lolli,
my sister is pregnant as well and has had the same skin sensitivities as myself forever. She isn't as pale as myself, and can slightly tolerate more, but i think my whole family is cursed with the red problem. We also get bumps which is obviously a sign of irritation. all i can really do for my skin is test chemicals on my body and see if they work, but from past experiences no chemical s/s can be put on my face..tis a nightmare. I also stick to mineral formulas (td and zinc oxide), and use skinceuticals spf 30 physical block. Might not be the best protection, but it's a lot better than going without anything at all, and far better than using nasty chemicals that react bad and would in the long wrong do much more damage to my problem skin. By the way, you have absolutely lovely skin as well (and hair!) |

Hi!
This Helioplex stuff has been all over the local news this past week in Miami, And I actually bought some of the Neutrogena Age Shield 45 yesterday at Target (a free lip balm came with my purchase ). Apparently many independant doctors are touting Helioplex as the most significant advancement in sun protection in the last 20 years (perhaps they are jumping on a bandwagon, but for me, it's better than simply hearing it from the manufacturers and their hired physicians).
I like that it is supposed to prolong the effectiveness of the sunblock, because I rarely reapply, and I like to walk on the beach for exercise .
I have had to throw other sunblocks away before because the burning feeling they have on my face has been unbearable. The shiny greasey look has been a major problem for me as well.
I just applied the age shield to my face for the first time, and I must say that there is no pain, and minimal shine. In fact, it feels very silky, like the Smashbox makeup primer.
I haven't been out in the sun yet (it is stormy here today), but so far, I am pleased with my purchase.
BTW, I read somewhere that there is a supplement based on this complex that has been available in Europe for years and is actually taken to protect the skin from sun damage. Has anyone heard of this, or taken this supplement?

i read about this supplement too, isn't it called heliocare? It claims that its supposed to be good at preventing aging when taking the supplement..and you must take it prior to going into the sun...but then it claimed it wasnt to be used as a source of sun protection. I was very confused at that point..haha. I only read one article about this pill though.. |

If there is no pain, minimal shine and feels silky then I want it. Hope it's available in Canada soon. |

Yes, there is a supplement it's from France, I think, and has been out about a year. I haven't heard any mention of it since it came out.
Sorry, but I don't have a lot of faith in the FDA. I remember about 20-30 years ago. PABA was the ingredient you were supposed ot look for in s/s. After years of slathering that on our bodies they decided it actually caused cancer. Then for years they would put on s/s "PABA" free. |

The octocrylene they added to their new formulations is what is stabilizing the avobenzone. They finally caught on to what has been known in other countries for a while. Since they sell internationally, can't imagine why their chemists overseas didn't call 'em on this a while back. |
I just took a look at a bottle of Coppertone Oil-Free Sunscreen SPF 45 that I have and it has octocrylene. betterat40 if that is what they are using to stabilize their avobenzone then it is nothing new even in the U.S. |

..i might actually have to consider buying this product for my body as I am supposed to be going outside tomorrow for a bbq in 93 degree sunny weather:( my lrp anthelios sunscreen never came in the mail yet so i don't really have a back up and i don't feel like slathering my skinceuticals mineral sunscreen all over my body. |

Pbi:octocrylene and avobenzone has to be at a certain percentage for the s/s to be stable. Also it cannot contain octinoxate. Yes, it is all very confusing... |

update:
I put this on before leaving for my sisters babyshower today and on the way there I noticed it was gumming up on my skin. I hope it doesn't do this continuously:/ |

That stinks...
I picked up a bottle today at WalMart but could have purchased it on Amazon.com for the same price... I have SPF in the daily moisturizer that I use anyway but will use the Neutrogena when I will be outside for an hour or more so that I have the broad spectrum protection.
Take care. |

Hi there,
I just started using Neutrogena s/s as well as the Burt's Bees orange facial cleanser and my face has gone rashy.
Not sure whether it's the parsol or the orange oil.
I was hoping that I would love the sunscreen but I think I have to go back to the drawing board.
Can anyone share their negative post-parsol skin reactions so I can get a better idea of where to point my finger? |

I think i am allergic to the parsol myself. I wore this suncreen 2 days ago outside and while my arms were fine, my chest was completely red and blotchy. That and it still gums up on my skin after application:/ |

I have had this reaction on my chest usually when I have used insect repellent at the same time. I think repellent actually increases the uptake of sunscreen into your skin. Otherwise, I have used many avobenzone/parsol 1789 sunscreens without any problems. |

I have never gotten a rash from using chemical sunscreens but my typical reaction is stinging, burning and irritation. |

When I attempt to use parsol/avobenzone, I get a variety of reactions--- anything from a red rash to just plain burning and stinging. Ugh, I stay far away from the stuff! |

Thanks for the link Molly.. I entered, but since it's Oprah sponsored {it seems, maybe?} I have my doubts of being in the first 2000.. .But, who knows, maybe some coupons will show up...
I have a tube, but haven't been out of the house to give it a good shot.. I did use it on my face right after I got it and it seemed to pill with my other products.. I'll try again, when it doesn't count.. I use their Dry Touch normally and love that.. I can always use it on other parts if it doesn't work out... |

I have been using this for a few days, and so far, I really like it I don't notice any gumming up, but I am using minimal product on my face (very little layering), so this could be why. My skin actually seems to look better/feel more balanced (not oily, not dry) when I use this. I like it better than the DHC White sunscreen that I had been using. The Age Shield (45) feels like I have nothing on my skin at all. The only thing that I don't like is the smell (I think that it stinks), but the smell is gone once it is absorbed. I will probably use this on my body as well as the tube seems too huge for face only.

I solely use this on my body, which I only put moisturizer over an hour or so before applying the sunscreen. It's very strange I'm getting the gumming:/ |

I am actually retracting my liking of this product While it felt nice on the skin, I noticed that my face looked red and patchy within a few hours of using it. My skin didn't feel irritated, but looked irritated. I went back to my DHC white, which is working fine for me, and I started using the Age Shield on my body. Now I am getting the piling and balling up. I do wear moisturizer every day as well, and there is more than enough time for it to sink in before the sunscreen, so I don't understand it either Well, I will use it up, but will not repurchase. I am not one to stick to any one product or brand for very long anyway
