It is a skin lightener for hyperpigmentation (brown spots from sun damage). For me, it causes super greasy oilies. The probable reason was explained to me once by an esthetician but I can't recall it.
Are you thinking about using it? And for what need?
I'm sure you'll get educated responses here. It is a hot topic. |

So , i apply it...i think my face is used to it and demands it or it starts givin me back those dark cirles. Also, i notice my dark cicrles and tan is darker each time |

I think you should wear sunscreen in your eye circles, because it makes you sun-sensitive as well.
My derm prescribed me some, and it did lighten my scars, but I've stopped using them since my scars went away. I think it's bad for the liver if you use it for a long time. |

Hi Speedy
It's a skin lightener most often used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation and melasma.
It stops the process in the skin which produces melanin which makes you tanned.
It's been banned in Europe for some time and before that there used to be warnings on products containing this that it is not safe for darker or asian skin.
As far as I remember this is because it can totally stop this process for good and people with darker skin can end up with blotchy skin with white patches. There may have been a further reason why it was banned I can't quite remember.
Users also report a kick-back effect when they stop using it on hyperpigmentation/melasma where it comes back darker than before.
There are much safer lightening alternatives which do the same thing albeit more slowly - kojic acid or Arbutin are a couple.

Please see my reply under hydrocortisone. Be very careful with hydroquinone. In my opinion it should be banned. For beauty purposes its effects are not worth the side effects (adverse effects). |

well ,as i mentioned i use Gatineau creamy clay mask..I doubt that it does contain this product but it works wonders for me. Maybe its just a clay mask that reduces melatonin production. without using those harmful chemicals |

Sppedy, What percentage of hydroquinone does your eye cream have? I'm fair skinned and I've had luck fading a dark spot on my chin using a facial cream with a concentration of 2% hydroquinone. I only put it on the one area,(and not even everyday, I forget often!) but when I first started using it, it would make the skin red. The redness would fade quickly and it doesnt happen anymore. Really, it's a small, superficial spot that I just don't like, but this cream has made it less noticable to me, and that's what matters.
If you're worried about it, perhaps just switch to a different eye cream. because, really, i don't think I'd be comfortable using hydroquinone under my eyes, when something gentler could do the trick. |

Oh, boy. All that mentioned about the side effect of HQ is scaring me. I had been applying it for about 6 months with great result. I think I will stop after I get my order of Jan Marini's Bioglycolic Lightening Gel. Hopefully it will work. I know that when I stop putting on the HQ, the spots will come back. I also ordered Cauldaline Vinoperfect radiance. Both products are suppose to help with age spots. |
