I think u must 'match' skin needs & skin type with what u buy. I'm tellin from experience (bad one) that high concentration does not suit my facial skin which is sensitive. it works great for my neck, hands, etc, where the skin is not sensitive.
good luck with buying! |

I agree, I think you need to consider the concentration of the vit C serum (don't go too high at first) and also if you want it to have additional things (eg. vitamin E - healing, regeneration, AHA - exfoliation, Kinetin - added moisture, etc).
Some of the serums also feel more watery than others - so it depends on what you prefer as well.

thanx for the inputs guys!
i use AHA lotion at nights and i am planning to apply the vit C serums in the morning.
my skin is slightly sensitive, and i probably will prefer serums that are more 'watery'.
so which product from Cellex-C/Skinceuticals should i consider purchase for my 1st attempt? |

I think both the Cellex-C and Skinceuticals vit C formulations (the ones with no additives) are quite watery. It's only when you get into Vivier, CellularSkinRx that it gets a bit more "substantial". Anything with vitamin E will probably feel like that as well (the Skinceuticals C+E does). I would suggest just the Skinceuticals Serum 10 really, particuarly if you have sensitive skin (don't go for a higher concentration to begin with). Btw, you might find that you will need some moisture booster serum/product over the top.

I agree with Mabsy. The Cellex-C and Skinceuticals solutions were quite thin. This isn't a criticism - they both worked for me. I just prefer the CellularSkinRx because it was not so expensive and I read that the glycol solution helps the C to penetrate deeper into your skin. It's a 12% concentration by the way. |

I use Ole Hendricksen Truth serum which has some vit C in the evening and it has done wonders.
I just have a quick question: can I use vit C serum product during the day? wont there be a danger of discolouration / brown freckles if I forget to out sunscreen on?
I didnt as yet use Ole Hendricksen product during the day as I find it too sticky and glossy - but it works! |

C serums should be used during the day to get the most benefit from the serum. The l-ascorbic acid prevents free radical damage caused by UV light, pollution and cigarette smoke. Also, C reduces melanin production so you don't have to worry about getting freckles from your C. However, if you do not wear sunscreen, you SHOULD worry.
Also, if your C has an AHA in it, it may make your skin more sun sensitive and also more likely to produce melanin (AHA's can stimulate melanin production if used alot). So even more reason to make sure you use sunscreen. I use my C at night as well - but then to stimulate further collagen synthesis. During the day, more for protection. |

I have considered getting the Ole serum before but the one thing that has put me off it was the fact that, if I recall correctly, it comes in a clear bottle. I think this is a big no-no when it comes to storing vitC products as they are sensitive to light and will not last long this way. Betterat40, can you confirm this? It makes the serum lose its effectiveness?

Yes, that's true, Mabsy. C is sensitive to light and air so a dark-colored bottle is best. And storing in a dark, cool cabinet, tightly capped, is best. I don't know why anyone would package C in a clear bottle. That's pretty basic knowledge (not to do that). |
