I'm new to the forums, and very pleased to see this topic, since I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Currently, I take the following:
Multi-vitamin (no minerals) -- mid-day (after lunch)
B-complex -- mid-day (after lunch)
Calcium (with magnesium and potassium, not quite the standard cocktail) -- mid-day (after lunch) and evening (after dinner)
Flax-seed oil -- three times a day
Evening Primrose oil -- twice a day, morning and evening
Fish oil -- twice a day, morning and evening(these three all for omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids -- more below)
Kelp/Dulse (for thyroid support)
Glucosamine sulfate -- twice a day, morning and evening
MSM -- twice a day, morning and evening (you can buy the GS + MSM, but it's more expensive that way)
And Cordyceps, a chinese herb I haven't seen mentioned yet, in the morning before eating.
My acupuncturist has suggested that I don't need all the omega fatty acids, but I've tried cutting back and really notice the difference in metabolism and general increased dryness. I take them for specific different reasons, too, since the body absorbs them differently.
Oh, and a custom Black Cohosh cocktail from my local herbalist, to help with (ahem!)menopausal symptoms. It also contains vitex, chickweed, motherwort, and dandelion. It's fabulous, and helps with more than just hot flashes/mood swings. Notably, my skin seems happier since I switched from Remifemin to this.
Hope I haven't overshared, and that this info is useful to some of you! |

Is anyone else taking the N-Acytyl Cysteine? I started on this supplement when I read on Vitacost.com that it has an anti-viral property. I wonder if this is why I am not getting when my kids are both sick and are coughing in my face daily. LOL I am also overdosing on hot green tea when I feel a tickle coming on.
Also, who else is taking Pycnogenol? What do you think of it? My sister swears by it. I am not sure if it does anything for me yet. |

I "try" to take a multi, B-complex and zinc. I notice a big difference if I can remember to take them long term. But I go through phases where I'll forget for a few days or weeks. I also either drink a quart of stinging nettle infusion everyday or take it in capsules if I'm too lazy to make the infusion. |

Here goes a ridiculously long list:
Morning:
1200 mg. Vit. C with bioflavonoids
1000 IU Vit. D
150 mg. Magnesium (for leg/foot cramps)
200 mg. HA combo (hoping to grow some lips)
700 mg. Celadrin (excellent for tendonitis & arthritis)
With/After Dinner:
200 mcg. Selenium (hair)
300 mcg. Biotin (hair)
250 mg. Inositol (hair, again)
100 mg. B Complex (hair, mouth corner cracks)
3 Progressive Multi Vit/Min. caps (no iron)
3 EFA capsules (psoriasis)
HRT (if I want to stay sane, etc.)
Maybe once a year, I'll do a course of Strauss Heart Drops, just to keep the pipes clean and to help with energy and aerobic capacity.
I also used to glug down a quart of green drink every morning (Greens+ with ground flax, Vit. C powder, with various other additives to address particular concerns). Then there were other supplements for use when I weight-trained more seriously. It finally got to be just too much to keep straight, so I've pared it down to the A.M./Dinner list above.
After all that, do you think I can remember to take the Cal./Mag. I REALLY need for osteopenia? It continues to sit, neglected, on my counter. I am such a ninny sometimes. |

-Flaxseed oil capsules
-Women's anti-stress formula (sometimes when needed )
-Hair & Nail supplements
I think that's it, but sometimes I also take extra iron, B12, Zinc, vitamin C & Echinacea tablets too. |

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who takes so many different kinds of vitamins each day. I feel like I am having a meal every time I take them. I used to take 20 or so a day. I cut back to less than 10 kinds now, but I seem to always look for NEW supplements to try. I am starting to get interested in Co Q 10, but don't know if I really need it. :-P |

Jrondeau-how long have you been taking the black cohocsh? MY ob/gyn advised me to take it right after my hysterectomy but for no longer than 6 months due to estrogen-like qualities in the herb that increase breast cancer risks. You might check it out. |

As far as I am concerned, if one has a balanced diet, it is not necessary to take extra vitamins. |

Yen, why do you choose these different combinations? Do you make the selection yourself or follow the advice of a doctor?

Yen, do they help with your menstrual cramps? I have seen a Naturopathic doctor for about 3 months, at that time i was seeking for help with my cramps as well as weight management problem. she also prescribed magnesium for my bowel movement. but after 3 months, my cramps didnt get any better so i just quit seeing her anymore. Everytime i visited her she just prescribe tons of pills to me. |
