I plan to have liposuction and a tummy tuck at the end of the month. Can anyone one recommend a product that promotes healing and diminishes the scarring. My doctor has already told my no nicotine products for six weeks.

Hi there and welcome. Copper peptides (from skinbio, dianayvonne.com or NCN) are good for wound healing and when the wound has healed you can use them with acids to help reduce scarring as well. Make sure you have a good diet and keep off the fags! Smoking slows skin healing a lot!

Good luck with it Very Happy

Once your tummy tuck scar has completely healed, I recommend the use of a Dermaroller to help break down the scar tissue and stimulate new collagen turnover. Many people swear it is much more effective than TCA peels! To achieve the best results, however, you'll need the medical grade 1.5 mm Dermaroller which is only available for purchase through a Thai seller on Ebay (any other source that carries it will only sell it to doctors).

I have not attempted to use a Dermaroller yet, but I have repeatedly read that it is extremely effective on it's own, as well as when you combine it with actives. Using the medical grade Dermaroller with copper peptides has been tested and is reportedly very effective. Even the top expert and creator of Copper Peptide products (Dr. Loren Pickart at Skinbio), agrees that the use of a Dermaroller combined with CP's will dramatically reduce scar tissue.

I had come across a website that had pictures of tummy tuck scars that were virtually removed using a medical grade Dermaroller, but I cannot find it at the moment. If I come across it again I will post a link. In the meantime, you might want to learn more about the Dermaroller by reading through this thread.

Another site worth reading through is this one - http://dermaroller.co.nz/research/dermaroller_series.htm . Here is an excerpt from this site that discusses the many uses of a Dermaroller to reduce scarring.

Wound & Surgical Scars

Every skin wound, except from superficial scratches, will result in scar formation. Surgically induced, iatrogenic wounds, closed under optimal conditions and healing under primary indention, will result in a thin, but inevitable scar. 2nd and 3rd degree burns treated under the best possible care or left alone to heal by secondary intention, will cause wide, dysmorphic and disfiguring scars on the skin of burn victims.

To all these patients, the Dermaroller™ CIT-8, MS-4 or MF-8, will be the best offer modern medicine can give.

Typical scars that are treated with the Dermaroller™ series:

-Facelift scars

-Hair transplantation scars (Strip procedure scars, scalp reduction or scalp extension scars)

-Surgical abdominal scars (appendectomy, Cesarean section, abdominoplasty etc)

-Thoracic scars

-Breast plastic operation scars (Breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction scars)

-Post liposuction scars

-Orthopedic scars (Knee, femoral, upper arm, vertebral scars etc.)

-Burn contractures

HTH's and all the best with your upcoming surgery! wave

My mom used Strivectin (sp?) on her tummy tuck scar and it barely shows now. She got the tip from my best friend's mother who used it on the scarring from her reconstructive breast surgery.

I had liposuction in July 2007, with minimal scarring. Hats of to Von Hoven cosmetices and their skin lightening products. I started with Mederma, but it doesn't even compare to the Fair and Flawless signature line. It even lightened the keliods. The PS suggest continuing to massage the areas and they are disappearing.

I've just had hand surgery and radiation ... to help with the scarring, I used, to good effect:

- CicaCare silicone sheets: these are 2-3mm thick silicone sheets that are self-adhesive and put a slight pressure on the incision as well as keeping the area moist. This really helps

- rosehip oil with Helichrysum (corsica) this helped accelerate the healing once the wound was closed

- emu oil with peru balsam: I used this when the radiation burn was open, it helped heal things up quickly.

- I took loads of flaxseed oil and omega 3-6-9 too, as that always helps me heal.
