There are several directions to go. Vitamin C can work over time, retinoids are helpful, hydroquinone has a long track record of success (though it is banned in Europe and some folks find that a concern; also some people get rebound hyperpigmentation after stopping it), and there are a variety of other things like licorice root, bearberry, kojic acid, etc. that are also used. The Obaji system (with hydroquinone) is used by many; do a board search and you'll be inundated in results. PSF makes a non-hydroquinone product that combines several lighteners. I haven't tried either, personally, but have used vitamin C and retinoids for years and they have drastically improved my pigmentation issues, slowly but surely.
But the single most important thing is sunscreen. Every day, no matter what. Especially while you're lightening, your skin is much more susceptible to additional sun damage. |
