Hi Peggotty,
I'm having the same experience as you. Only used it twice and my skin is drier, spotty, milia accented, and even have crepey areas on a once smooth forehead - NO peeling. I had to stop for a bit (eye cataract surgeries) and my skin hasn't improved at all by the stopping. I'm wondering if this is a good idea for my very mature skin. I can certainly see the value for you younger ladies.
Anyone over 60 that has started this?

Hi Zoftig
Here is a link to some info on retinoids you may find helpful. It provides some very valuable information.
My mother started using Retin-A about a month ago and she is 78 and is loving it. She did follow the instructions that are in the link which I think made it easier for her.
I hope this helps,

Bless you Y,
That is good information on that site! I have researched Retin A but this was exactly what I needed to hear.
Thank you for the info on your Mom. Seventy-eight and still working the skin - that is so great! I'm not quite there yet but if she can start at her age and love it then I'll just hang in there.
Thank you for responding!

Peggotty (and I LOVE your nome de plume), the one thing I've learned about RetinA is that results vary. BIG understatement. I use RetinA-Micro three times a week and my skin peels. On obagi, it peeled and dried like there was no tomorrow. And this was on the second day. I looked like Yoda for six weeks.
I've heard of people going through the entire Obagi regimen with NO peeling or redness.
And I've also heard of a woman who uses Retin A as a 20 minute once a week mask and that induces enough peeling for her. So...Yeah, learn from posts, but most of all learn from your own skin! |

| My Retin A is here today!! YEAH FINALLY!! While I'm starting it only a few days a week is it still ok to use a retinol cream on the off days? A retinol cream I've already been using for a couple months and had no problems with?? |

I personally would wait until I saw how my skin reacted to the Retin A alone. If you did have a problem you wouldn't be sure if it was the new product or the combination of the two.
Which Retin A strength did you buy? What retinol cream (and strength) were you using before? |

| I bought .025 cream and gel, .05 cream and gel and retin micro which said it was .04. Tonight I tried the .025 cream so far. The retinol I was using was green cream 9. |

| I am with Obagi now, started four days ago, but have not blend retin-A yet. so everhting is managable though my face gets to be like cherry in the afternoon. but ppl said that u have to put retin-A for best results, and it will cause serious peeling and redness. so i just wonder if it is OK to go to office with the redness on, i mean is the redness is that serious that u cannot really face your colloeagues.thanks for sharing! |

Your makeup usually covers the majority of the redness, which is not from the Retin A but more from the Exfoderm and Clear. |

| I just wanted to check back in. I posted a question asking if you can go from Green Cream 9 to Retin A .1. Well, you can. I tried it for the first time on Thursday night. Today is Saturday and I have no irritation so far. I may wait until tomorrow night to apply it again just to be on the safe side. Then I'll work my way up to every other night. Thank you to Kassy for suggesting that I go ahead and try it. |

Can someone please please define the Redness from Retin A for me?
Is the redness more like the pink tone of new skin or the redness due to more visible blood vessels? Do you experience facial flush more often since on the Retin A? Will that eventually back to normal?
These are all what I have been experience since using the retinol cream. Pores and skin texture has improved after I have peeled over and over, but I am more red than before |

| Sorry I won't be of too much help. I don't get the redness from retin-a. I wonder if it depends on how sensitive your skin is? |

| My redness looked and felt more like a mild sunburn and was gone by the next day. I only had it once and used aloe gel on it to cool. Yours sounds like something quite different. |

I agree, it sounds like you have something different going on. And you are red from a retinol cream? Maybe whatever else is in the product doesn't agree with your skin? |

I had used the Clarisonic about an hour before the Retin A. Maybe that cleansing was too much? I haven't had any problems since with redness.
It was a good tip about the cream, rileygirl. I use the Tretinoin by Clay-Park Labs and my understanding is that different labs use the same active but vary on the cream formula. Something for the new gals to keep in mind when they get a reaction! |

| I've been using Retin-A .025 from ADC for about 2-3 weeks 2 nights on 1 off and have not had any irritation or redness. How soon does that come on when you first start? |

Oranges, I think because your starting Retin-A slowly is why your not experiencing discomfort and I think that's really the secret with starting and gradually building up. You'll probably have some peeling or flaking eventually but it should be easily managed with gentle exfoliating occasionally.
I have also found that waiting the twenty minutes after washing before applying does make a difference. |

| I've been on Retin A now for over 1 month, I stop for 1 week before my refirme treatment and start back 4 days after the treatment, it works will for me I also apply emu oil 2-3 hours later (before going to bed) I use vitamin C, e combined (Vivier) and a good Vichy moisturizer with SPF20 in the day time. Simple routine, also on my off days I use Vichy firming at night, my skin looks good, can't tell you what is the different in my skin but someting is different, so weird. Still have my wrinkkles, so it probably takes longer to see a different in wrinkles, right? |

At least 1 year for the best results with wrinkles, chelsie! |

A whole year to see results!! Yikes- I guess as long as it's going in the right direction it's better then not starting the retin A at all After all - I am not getting any younger LOL |

I think a person will start seeing results sooner, gailbaby, but for the best results they usually say 1 full year of nightly Retin A use! |

I agree with rileygirl. Into the first 2 months of using Retin A I already noticed improvements in tone (even-ner overall and more radiant) and texture (smooth, soft, diminishing pores). I am looking forward to see what my skin will look like when I hit the one year mark (about 3 months from now!). |

| What percentage are you using every night? I'm using .1 every other night. I think .1 is too strong for nightly use. I think it would dry out my skin too much. My skin is responding well to what I'm doing so I'll stick to that for now. I may want to consider a nightly routine down the road. |
