I keep seeing products such as New MD M.D. Forte Facial Cream III 30% Glycolic Acid or
30% Glycolic Acid Sweet Orange Body Lotion.

http://cgi.ebay.com/30-Glycolic-Acid-Sweet-Orange-Body-Lotion-4-oz_W0QQitemZ5601478317QQcategoryZ11841QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

So I got to wondering is it possible to make your own face cream or body lotion if I just added glycolic acid? Basically take my face cream add a few drops of glycolic acid. Mix well apply and then wash off.

Has anyone ever used a product that contained 30% or higher glycolic acid if so how did it work?

I doubt that would really work. pH is really important for AHAs. Those creams are around 3.8%. Anything above is not likely to give you much benefit, from my understanding. Regular cream you would use as a base is probably around 6.0**, as this would be the least irritating for our skin.

**Not sure on this, but my best guess.

Hi queenbluebee and faith,

Dianne got this recipe from personalformulator, and I am pasting it here.
It is already in DIY section.

Recipe for a 15% glycolic acid cream :

22.40g or 4-3/4 tsp of cream (he suggested the multi lameller cream.)

Mix in 5.95g or 1/3 tbsp of 70% glycolic acid

and 2/3 tsp of triethanolamine to increase the ph to 3.5-4.0

I have not tried it, but it looks reasonable.

You can definitely make your own. The above recipe is a little rough.
(I'd replace the TEA with sodium/ammonium hydroxide and probably add a few things.)

Ph can be altered easily.
