Thanks for that Tri-luma link. Very informative. Very long too Very Happy What's clear is that it's not intended for long term use. It's not available in our area anyway.
Rileygirl, I was able to buy a "local" obagi, costing only a fraction of the real obagi. I'll see how it works for me because it's had really good reviews for many users.
Cool

What do you mean by local obagi? are the ingredients the same?

this is my 6 week using obagi. my skin tone is uneven. my cheeks are lighter(I'm dark complexion) my family makes fun of me. i spoke with the doc who told me to stop using the retin at least for a few days. my nose and part of my cheeks looks burned and are darker. to me i look worse then before. i haven't get too much peeling. but the discoloration is more noticeable.
i really don't know what to do. i invested too much money. i have been suffering from acne fro many years.

any advice? should give up? should i continue?

hope to hear from somebody-im desperate-worry

It is definitely normal for hyperpigmentation to look darker in the beginning. Are you using the Clear only once a day? I know that is recommended for darker skin. Did your doctor say anything about the spots being darker?

thanks so much for getting back to me.
i use the clear once a day and the blender at night. i saw my doc and she recommended to cut down on Ret A to 2-3 week. and to stop step 4. i being doing it but still i do not see any improvement yet( still worry about my black and white face) i just came from Sephora and one of the sale rep told me that you can not use Hydroquinone during day time-this might cause more hyperpigmentation and darker spot.
so then why obagi use hydro at day time-do you know why? it is true that hydro can cause cancer?

Definitely listen to what your doctor tells you to do. Depending on how severe your pigmentation is, it can take 3-6 months (and sometimes even longer) for you to see results with Hydroquinone. In my opinion, no Hydroquinone doesn't cause cancer. As long as you are using a good quality sunscreen, preferably a physical sunscreen like zinc, you are fine to use the HQ during the day. Obagi is a great line. Listen to and follow how your doctor tells you to use it, use a good sunscreen, and your skin will improve! Just remember it takes time for the skin to improve, so give it a few months and see how your skin is looking. Good luck!

I have been on the obagi system for 9 wks and I hate how I look! I am breaking out, my face it red, peeling still going on and look really bad under my eyes. I was told to use all the product under eyes also and since I have been doing this it looks dry and wrinkly like I've aged 30 yrs! Did anyone else go through this? How long til I get results I will be happy with? Confused

I would definitely talk to your derm. You may need a slower route, or a lower dose RA, etc. We all improve at different rates and it really depends on how much pigmentation you are dealing with before you start to see results. Unfortunately, the redness can last all the way through the 18 weeks, and peeling is usually off and on through the entire time, as well.

Regarding your eye area, that is perfectly normal. Are you using a good eye cream morning and evening?

I experienced the same thing, it was really hard to keep using it with the undereye area looking so bad. Thank heavens I had read that others went through the same thing. Mine is now looking better but it takes awhile. I am ready to start my 10th week. I also cut back on the amount of product I used, the results may be slower but the side effects aren't as drastic and easier to live with.
Now I look great with just Jane Iredale pressed mineral poder as my foundation.

I have been using Obagi for 4 weeks now. Like others mentioned I feel like I look so old with dehydrated, peeling, red and wrinkly skin. I didn't look this bad before!!! My question is are both #3 and #5 the hydroquinone? I was told to use the #3 every morning and night and the #5 plus Refissa (retin A) a few nights a week. It seems strange to put both the #3 and the #5 on at the same time if they are both hydroquinone. I also don't understand the 18 week time frame that everyone refers to on the different Obagi threads. Is this how long one should do the program and then by stopping suddenly all the peeling and redness disappear? I just don't get how the nice skin appears! Sad

18 weeks is the recommended length of time before you then go onto maintainence, but it can be different for each person. Your dermatologist or skin care expert can guide you on this.
Also, you can go to the Obagi webite to read about the different programs and decide which one is best for you or your mom's skin.
I am in week 11 and loving how my skin looks now. Most of the dryness is gone, the tightness is gone and the area under my eyes is looking much better. So happy I stuck with it, my skin is looking very nice. I have dry, mature skin and I use the nu-derm program.

Buffy45, I am wondering what you do for under your eyes. I was told not to use the products (I am on Nuderm) under the eye. I have been neglecting my eyes and neck and they seem dry and wrinkly. I appreciate any suggestions. Also do you use both 3 and 5 with retin A at the same time?

Gaby, here is my reoutine on the nu-derm.
AM
Clenase
Toner
C-serums, 5% around eyes and 20% on rest of face, neck and chest area.
Clear
Exfoderm
Elastiderm Eye Cream all around eye
Sunfader
PM
Cleanse
Toner
Clear
Blender and Retin A
I do use all the products around my eyes, both upper and lower lid. I have read both where it is ok to do this and also that you shouldn't do this. I am 65 and had deep winkles undereye and crows feet. It was rough at first and since I have read where some people use it every other night around their eyes, or not at all but this routine seems to be working for me. The only problem I stil have is dark cirlces under my eyes and I am still looking for the perfect product to help that.

Whoops, I forgot to add the elastiderm eye cream in the pm, I use that both morning and night. Truly think it is helping smooth the under eye area and crow's feet.

regarding the Obagi line. From what I can figure out, this is a way of forcing skin to replace itself, sort of like a chemical peel. I went to a doctor whos office pushes this stuff so I imagine there must be a terrific profit margin. After comparing prices of course I overpaid (over the inflated normal prices)for the vitamin C serum. So far, it’s not hurting me, though I do appreciate the comment that I need to be carful about it blocking pores. The rest of the line might be OK for younger and tougher skin than mine. (nearly 60, delicate, fair skin in pretty good shape), but after reading how many have found the line to be irrating and in some ways addictive. (original problem returns worse when usage stopped) I’m sure glad I didn’t fork over $500 (or more). I’m not the type who wants to go through step after step and this line is clearly more of a hastle than I am prepared to deal with and has too many people who noticed no benefit or had bad experiences. My feeling is if ingredients have caused problems in one product, most likely the same harsh ingredient will cause problems in any product.
