I have purchased a few things from Garden of Wisdom. This is one that I have recently repurchased in full size. The full size has a sprayer.
I have the 5% no alcohol and no seaweed version. I purchased a small sample size that is .25 oz for $6.25.
My skin is oily but often looks as if it has a layer of dry skin. I cannot use a lot of exfoliaters as my skin is sensitive, but this I can use.

Description frow GOW site:
Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that helps clear away dead skin cells that have built up on the skin's surface, and because of its smaller molecule size it can also work within the pore as well. Unlike glycolic acid, it cannot penetrate the skin's layers to enable deeper exfoliation, but it can help to refine pores. Mandelic acid has antibacterial properties.

Pros:
This is an excellent option for those that want exfoliation but can't tolerate anything strong. It is effective without irritation.
Reasonable cost at $18.90 per one ounce
Shipping to Canada (from US) is reasonable.
Sample size available
Does not irritate my sensitive skin, but gently exfoliates
Formula does not have a lot of fillers or items I do not want ie: perfume, silicone
I spread a few drops over skin. Moisturizer over it if required. Suggest wait time is 20 minutes.

Cons:

Runny, thin formula. I need to be careful when applying. Plain white packaging for samples. Better packaging on full size. |

The Mandelic Acid does not irritate your sensitive skin? I have used it once in a product from Osmosis, called Clarify and the Mandelic acid really exfoliated my skin, leaving my skin in an uneven, almost appearing as light scars.
Keep us posted what results you find, with sensitive skin. |

I am using the 5% version with no alcohol and no seaweed. This is the mildest of the formula choices - next is a 10% version and there is a step up after that one.
I went though my trial size before purchasing a full size.
I have to be selective on retinol and AHA products. For example I am OK with Avene retinaldhyde (and they keep discontinuing the ones that work for me!!). I purchased Paula's Choice 1% retinol and got irritation. I could try stepping down the PC to once a week but I would rather use the GOW. |

Osmosis uses Retinaldhyde in all of their Vitamin A serums. I have to say though, that after using the line for one year, the retinal, even that form did not help my skin. It actually made my skin look like it is more scarred than before. I think it is part mandelic acid mixed with retinaldhyde in a high dose, as well as followed by using a serum with just the retinaldhyde.
I have used a TON of strong cosmeceutical products previously from Phyto-C, which I purchased form EDS, where my skin was amazing and luminous. Yet I wanted to change products, due to a friends advice. However, using retinal instead of strong Vitamin C serums did NOT make my skin better, it made it much worse. I have actually read about this happening to people who have thin skin or already compromised skin via sensitivity etc. |

Thanks for stating your experience. I have always been a skeptic in advocating the use of retinal/ retinoic derivatives. Unless it's specifically prescribed for a good reason, there is no point in sensitizing the skin.

Thank you so much in pointing out the benefits of mandelic acid. I also discovered it by default in an "oxygen bubble mask" that contains mandelic acid. I found that after using the mask, my pores open up for easy extraction. Even better than steaming it first.
The mask is made by SKIN PEPTOXYL. |
