I'll answer my own question Not the same device I have, but the iBeauty device video here http://www.ibeautymachine.com/motorized-micro-needle-system-12-needle-rechargeable.html (thirdway down the page) under "ibeauty needle retraction demo video" suggests vibrating is normal, and it does actually "stamp" under slow-mo video. To the naked eye, at full speed, it simply looks like it's vibrating.
Weird that the demonstrations of the My-M on Youtube have them visibly stamping at a slower speed. https://youtu.be/6AAXjCWsUFQ?t=18 (another My-M clip).
My main worry is that I don't want to tear my skin!! |

I was worried about treating my skin, too, with a knock-off Dermapen. I stared at those needles so many times trying to see them go up and down, but I could never see them do anything but vibrate. I finally did a test from the Owndoc website where I slowly slid the My-M across a piece of colored paper to see if it created holes, or if it just tore the paper. If the needles just vibrated instead of going up and down, the paper would be torn. You might want to try that test? |

Thanks for replying, piscesgirlrenee (seems much quieter on EDS than I remember!).
I saw the "micro-tearing" allegations on other pages/threads (about cheaper electric "dermapen"-type devices) and must admit, I'm none the wiser. Surely any of these devices have the ability to tear if used recklessly - I'll just assume that following protocol and taking my time is best. (I have EMLA cream, HA for glide, and an HA/peptide solution post-treatment).
With my My-M, it does appear to simply puncture holes in paper. One way of viewing the back-and-forth mechanism in action is through a digital camera's viewfinder.
Still unsure if this My-M's rapid action, compared to the slower My-M's on Youtube, is worse or better for my skin. |
