Davita BeautyLite BL110, official page here http://www.davita-shop.co.uk/shop/light-therapy/collagen-anti-aging-therapy/collagen-light-therapy-box-beautylite-bl-110.html

I can see Davita specialise in manufacturing SAD lights and other medical equipment. This cropped up on Amazon Warehouse very cheap so thought I would give it a try. Comes with an EU plug though!!

I already have an Anti-Aging Lightstim which I've had for years, but it can be so time-consuming!!

One thing that strikes me, apart from its size (H 52 x W 30 x D 7cm) is that it has fluorescent bulbs versus LED - some sites say Red Light Therapy fluorescent lamps are UV free, or at least minimal, whereas other sources say there is *some* UV output.

The lady in this demonstration photo seems very far away from the Davita BeautyLite BL110 lamp, surely I'd need to be almost touching it for any benefit? Image

Not much technical data I can find on this but the instruction manual says -

Power - 108 Watts
3 x 36 watt Special Lamps With Red Fluorescent Tubes
Average Lifetime - approx 1,000 hours
Electric Ballast Units - Instant starting, flickerfree light, no stroboscopic effects. Buzz free operation. Automatic switch off at the end of lamp live time.
Light Spectrum - 580-630nm
Energy Costs - (average price of 0,20€ / kWh) < 0,02€ per hour
Operation Temperature - 10°C to 25°C
Light Emission - The selection of lighting source and light filter reduces the energy of light emitted in the infrared and UV ranges to a minimum level, so it is harmless to human skin and eyes.

The mention of a filter is interesting as I can see some fluorescent Red Light Therapy units without the filter this Davita unit has (example here)

Any thoughts from the experts? Very Happy

I have my original baby Q and the larger one. For some reason I think I have better results with the smaller one. I have pica sticks and silver gloves, Nuface, tripollar(both their devices)- baby Q and Reaura. I have tested them all.. ready to sell them all off as useless but for the Baby Q and Reaura. Both these devices I swear by that make a real difference.

The problem with fluorescent bulbs is that they do not have a fixed wavelength like LED bulbs. For example, my Lumiere machine uses a red LED bulbs at 633nm wavelength. Who knows what wavelengths are being emitted with a fluorescent bulb -- the range may be broad, and I guess theoretically could contain UV wavelengths. Light is different than laser in that the beam is dispersed rather than staying at a fixed point. This means that you need to be close to the machine, and the machine needs to be powerful to penetrate the skin. I have never felt red fluorescent bulbs so I can't tell you if they would be hot. But it may be challenging to get the bulb to emit enough light without making it too hot to be anywhere near the skin for any duration, much less the several minutes in a typical protocol.
