Hey everyone!

I'm confused about when I should be cleansing, moisturizing, and toning.

I know the order is cleanse, tone, moisturize, but how often should I be doing these things? Should I tone and moisturize right after I get out of the shower (which is after cleansing)?

Right now, I apply a heavy coating of either coconut, olive, or avocado oil (I haven't had any breakouts or anything so I seem to tolerate them well) about an hour before I shower (kind of like a mask), then wash it off during the shower with my cleanser, then wait a short while and apply something to my under eye area (emu oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, whatever) after toning (I use an apple cider vinegar/distilled water toner in a 50/50 ratio).

Then before bed I apply a heavy coating of said oils again, and by morning it seems to have all been completely absorbed.

I also use a few serums sometimes in the evening, a vitamin C serum and an MSM/water serum.

Also, any tips about the MSM serum? I mix a bit of MSM powder (OptiMSM, supposedly one of the best) in some distilled water, stir it until the water is clear, then simply dip a paper towel in the mixture and apply it to my face.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

These are just my thoughts, so take them for what they are worth.
You are using some great oils, and if your skin is tollerating them well? Awesome!
If you choose to apply them before showering, kind of like the Oil Clensing Method, why not use this time to try Tanaka Massage. You will get the excess lymph dranage moving from your face, and clean the dirt and grim from your skin.
Then cleanse with a gel or foam cleanser.
Follow with your toner, you may find that replacing the water in your ACV toner with strongly brewed green tea gives you a great toner as well. Loads of antioxidants to fight aging, strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that repair skin damage and reduce redness.
Once the toner has absorbed you can apply your emu oil to the eye area, one of the best oils IMHO.
Now apply your serum, your serum needs to go on before your oils as it cannot absorb through the barrier the oil will create, but the oil can be absorbed through the serum.
If I were you I would make up and nice mix with your coconut oil, avocado, olive, maybe add in some argan, macadamiun nut oils and apply 4-6 drops to your face and neck.

HTH

It is very easy to get confused as a lot of different things work for different people depending on your age, skin type, lifestyle etc. For me, I tend to be more cautious. I would say you should actually double cleanse your skin at night and then use a toner and moisturiser. Reason being is that during day we are exposed to the elements and dust pollution etc. The double cleanse really helps the skin stay health. Now although you are talking about getting out of the shower, unless the water is hitting your face for a period longer than a minute it wouldn’t hurt to double cleanse.
Now you say you apply a heavy coating of oil before you shower. Like someone has already suggested – it may be worthwhile using Tanaka. Now with the msm serum believe it or not using a paper towel isn’t the best idea as often the towel absorbs more of the msm than the skin does.
Now the former posters comment about serum going on before oils is correct. You see the serum applied first will be pushed deeper into the derma layers of the skin with an oil. However if you have skin irritation (which you don’t) then applying an oil helps prevent the skin becoming irritated and followed by the serum.
Actually 4-6 drops is too much. You can cover the whole face with about 3 drops of any oil out there. I remember reading an aromatherapists book some time ago where she said that a lot of the women she worked with who had saggy skin which was healthy encountered so many issues because they were applying too much oil. You only need to coat the skin in whatever oil you use and you should press it into the skin rather than rubbing or massaging it.

I like to cleanse and tone first, then step into the shower. This way, the toner will continue to work (most contain humectants) in the shower. Once stepped out of the shower, pat dry and moisturise.
