Hi all,

I've been doing facial exercises basically since I was a teenager (I'm in my 40s now), but recently even with that, I noticed that my upper eyelids are a bit puffy and my jaw area is not as tight as it could be. I just look tired and haggard. Also my face has lost its plumpness. I do some very basic facial exercises once every other day, for about 5-10 minutes. But still this has happened and I can't understand why.

Having said that, my skin is really excellent. I have no wrinkles or lines whatsoever. So because of that, I'm hoping I can get my youthful looks back. But what is going wrong in the facial firmness/muscle tone?

Thanks

Well you say you have been doing them since a teenager, it may be that you need to add resistance. Very basic exercises are great for youngsters, but do little for most middle aged people. Now with the loss of plumpness – have you thought about doing massage too? I think massage and resistance based exercises really are the thing for middle aged folks (and I can say that as I’ve been there myself).

Now the other thing is to look at your lifestyle. Have you been sleeping sufficiently? Have you been stressed out or worried – because that happens a lot and its often the last thing we think of. 5-10 minutes isn’t very long either. Have you been doing a complete program?

Now another thing that I’ve heard (but not personally seen) is that they talk about diet. I don’t understand it all and it goes over my head – but one time they were advising that if you were doing facial exercises and not eating say protein – then your muscles couldn’t recover. I remember some of the younger girls saying that they had similar results as you – and the trainers asked them questions and their protein intake was all way below standard – so that may be also something that you want to look at.
