I've used retinoids off and on for the last 25 years, since the age of 14. Usually on for a few years, off for a year, in varying strengths from .05 to .1%. I took a break from prescription strength retinoids about two years ago, and I've mostly stuck with acids, matrixyl, and vitamin C in that time. I'm trying to wean myself off chemical exfoliants and move back toward retinoic products, which provided the greatest improvement to my large pores. 🙄
Recently, I picked up a bottle of PTR's Fusion PM, with 1.5% incapsulated retinol, which is supposed to be non irritating despite its potency. I've used it several nights in the last week and it practically feels like starting retin A all over again. My skin feels warm and kind of prickly a few minutes after applying it. One night I definitely used too much and woke up with what looked like a mild sunburn. I think I might even have some mild purging.
I see hundreds of glowing reviews about how gentle the formula is, but it strikes me as quite strong.
Does anyone else have any experience with this product? Could I be having a reaction to a different ingredient, or does this sound about right? I really want this serum to work. I love the texture; it's silky and despite the fact it goes on like a dry oil, it's not greasy. Furthermore, I purchased a huge 2 oz bottle. |

I use this product every other day. Considering the fact that I have sensitive skin I didn't experience any adverse reaction to this product. I did in the beginning have just very minor breakouts, however it stopped after my skin got used to it.
I think with any retinol based products, its best to start slow maybe once or twice a week for about twe weeks and then try 3 times a week for that amount and then move on to every other night. See how it goes from there.. |
