I can't decide between Obagi Nu-Derm Clear 4% Hydroquinone #3 -or- Obagi Nu-Derm Clear FX #3 (without the Hydroquinone).
This would be the only Obagi product I use. I use Avene Retrinal every other night, on the alternating night I use Babor Complex C Creme for a nice moisturizer-only night.
If you have tried either of these Obagi Clear products, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Especially if you tried both of them at any point. Thanks! |

since I can't edit the original post, I wanted to mentin that one of these would be the only Obagi product I use, not using the whole system or any other Obagi products. |

They are both "Clear" Do you know the difference in effectiveness between the 2? |

The Clear will be much stronger...the FX contains arbutin, which eventually converts to HQ, but much of the strength will be lost in the conversion.
The FX version *may* give you the same results over time, but it will take longer.
What I decided to do was to use the Clear to lighten the spots sooner rather than later, and then to move to FX when I reached maintenance. |

Thanks, bethany. Did you use the whole Obagi system, or just the Clear product? I use Aven Retrinal on alternating nights. Was going to start the Clear just 2x per week for 2-3 weeks, then go to every other night. I am really concerned about the peeling that people have commented on. |

marci65, you won't have any peeling with the Clear. It is HQ. You would peel if you used the blender/Retin A combo. |

I am not interested in extensive peeling, lol. I only use Retin-A 2-3x a week, and don't plan on changing that.
I have the Clear and the Blender, and my plan was to use the Clear every day, and the Blender with my Retin-A.
But I stopped using the Obagi after a week due to a MAJOR outcropping of mega zits...they turned out to be due to another product, so I need to pick up the Obagi again (especially since nothing else seems to working, lol). |

Definitely go with the normal Clear product. You'll notice more of a difference with it. Starting slow is a good idea too because you may or may not have an adverse reaction to HQ so it would be good for your skin to start slow and get used to it.
*sigh* I'm back on 4% HQ now since all the good results I got from Obagi have pretty much gone, but this time around I'm using a local cosmetic surgeon's own personal line, which is a little less harsh but pretty much the same stuff as Obagi. I'm not sure if you have to be so conservative as to use retin-a only 2-3x per week for the next 2 weeks. Up it a little if you find that you aren't peeling much. |

It is better to use the whole line instead of only Obagi Clear. You will reap the rewards "better" instead of using too many products on your skin....

Does Obagi have to be prescribed by a doctor? |

No, bkkgirl, you can buy the kits, or separate products on line. I always thing that someone (nurse or doctor) should be helping a person along with obagi in case there are problems, but if people decide to do it on their own, they really need to research and read to learn all they can about the process! |

I suggest Obagi Nu-Derm Clear 4% Hydroquinone #3, if you do not irritate for hydroquinone. |

Where can you buy the "Obagi Nu-Derm Clear 4% Hydroquinone #3"? Everywhere I look online I am finding the one with Hydroquinone but i want the one without the Hydroquinone.
Please advise. Thanks.

You can't buy the Obagi products with the 4% hydroquinone online. It's medical grade and thus you need to speak with a doctor or medical spa in order to buy it. |

But we used to buy HQ Nu derm in EDS site here a few years ago. Now it doesn't sell HQ Nu derm any more here. So sad |
