Hello,

Hoping to start a new discussion about thread lifting! I originally posted this on Skin Deep, though that forum seems to be pretty slow =/

Anyways...

I have had mono and cog PDO threads inserted professionally twice now and they are an excellent alternative to filler in those areas that need fill, lift and tightening, though not with a voluminous effect. I would liken it to embedding a scaffold of shrink wrap beneath your skin. Results are somewhat similar to microneedling, but with more lifting and filling benefits. So far I've had 50-60 threads inserted. Looks incredibly natural. This is a very popular procedure in Asia.

To get the best, most transformative result, ideally you want to embed hundreds of threads over the course of a few months, then top up ever so often (this is how it's done in Asia; doctors here are more modest with the number of threads they'll insert...not quite sure why, though I suspect cost as it could easily add up to 10K for what they charge).

Alas the cost adds up. I ended up driving to Canada to do it the second time because doctors here want between 3K - 5K for 30 or fewer threads Rolling Eyes. Also, I'd like to experiment with PLLA threads (same material as Sculptra), though most practitioners use PDO.

I've been researching how to embed them myself, though haven't been able to find any DIY'ers in this arena. Hoping to start a new trend here!

There are plenty of instructive videos on YouTube and the threads are readily available on ebay and Amazon. I haven't been able to source lidocaine solution for numbing. Hoping a topical will be enough.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to injecting anything into my skin. My main concern at this point is inserting at the appropriate depth. The risk is considerably lower than with fillers as you aren't injecting anything that can infiltrate the vascular system. Worse case scenario is you hit a major blood vessel and develop a haematoma, though if you are able to keep the needle just below the dermis, and not too deep into the subcutaneous tissue, I don't think this should happen. The other problem I see with deep insertion of multiple threads is lipolysis of fat cells. Eastern practitioners do this purposely as facial slimming is popular in Asia, thought not something that I myself necessarily want. Beware of Korean videos that give this instruction!

Right now I will only attempt mono threads as cog threads require more technical skill (and require deeper insertion). I am thinking of buying acupuncture needles to practice.
