hi. thanks so much.

because, i just went to her and on thursday and left there crying and yelling at the aesthetician, which is so not my way. i have gone to 300.00 and 400.00 facials in nyc, and i just moved out here and thought she'd be perfect, she's a nightmare. i spent over six hundred dollars and my skin is ruined.

i hesitate saying this, but for her it is all about the money and celebrity and self-promotion.

if anyone knows anywhere to go in LA, that does peels and is good, please let me know. usually i go to jurligue, but they don't do peels.

anyway thanks again for the response it really validated my experience. she is opening two salons in nyc by the end of the year and the people in nyc will not put up with her radical behavior and her forceful buyings. and the way she slaps around your face carelessly. no way.

Hi,

I agree with you on Sonya Dakar. I have used a good number of very high quality professional skin care products and always wondered about her products.
I recently tried all the products that would be beneficial for my skin and wow I was so shocked by the poor quality of ingredients and my face would sting!!!I was using products for sensitive skin!!! I threw them all in the garbage!!! Unreal I was so shocked how bad quality they were, wow crazy how much you can spend!!

thanks so much for your response!

i had the same experience. i was trying stuff for sensitive skin and found my skin completely irritated. the funny thing is when i spoke her about it, she said that everyone is allergic to something and some people ARE allergic to the irritation line but the ones who are not really benefit from it. also her products say hypoallergenic.

what are you using now, if you don't mind me asking?

thanks.

If you go on Makeup Alley and look under Sonya Dakar, the overwhelming response is that her customer service and really her personality in general are horrible. As for the products, some have good results with them and some do not... just like anything else. Confused

you guys are so nice on this board. alilicious (cute name) thanks for the the tip. i went to the site and really feel stupid. now i have the courage to go and say something to her.

you know, i couldn't wait to get a facial from her, i was so excited and told her so. but she is terribly inconsiderate and she does push you for the product buying. but i figured she knows what she's doing and all the celebrities go to her, so i bought and listened. she actually offered me a job in her marketing dept when i first met her (i did marketing in nyc for cosmetics). she told me she would like me to meet her daughter, who is in charge of mkting. just interesting.

and on the mua they said she treats the celebrities nicer, but i was there when anna karnikova was there and she waited for an hour. her asst kept coming out and politely freaking out.

anyway, again if anyone has tips for a good person/place in LA, i would love to hear!

Thanks for all your help and validation.

hollywithanh,
You are so lucky you got out without spending more money. I'm another Sonya Dakar victim. I stuck with it believing all her hype for hyperpigmentation problems. Thousands of dollars later, I had little or no results. I would have to wait an hour an half after my scheduled appointment time for a receptionist to do my facial. Sonya did a diamond peel on me without telling me how much it cost and asking if I wanted it. Then lets me know that I could only buy a series for $1200!

After that fiasco and her 12 step system that doesn't really work, I was afraid to even try another facialist. It's been years since then and I've just started going to the Gauthier Total Image Spa in Sherman Oaks and a woman named Eleanor does Lumifacials on me. She mainly uses Yonka products and hasn't tried to hype me too much. I've gone twice so far and am seeing some nice results. She's only had me purchase 2 yonka products for my hyperpigmentation and they seem to be working.

The spa is pretty low key and the people are nice. Parking is crowded in the evenings, but I will continue going there.

Hope this helps! We should start a Sonya Dakar support group ...

Hollywithanh,
Please don't feel stupid! Crying or Very sad You were just in the search for beautiful skin just like we all are and it was Sonya who preyed on that fact. All you can do is the best you know how and now that you know better, you'll do better. Smile I don't live in LA, but I have heard really good things about Kate Somerville Skin Health Experts on Melrose. The # is 323-655-7546. I think her facials start at around $125. Then I think you should go back to Sonya Dakar and tell her to shove her $1200 Diamond Peel up her self-righteous ass. Laughing

I really have to say that I love her Omega 3!
I have read that she is pushy and she admitted that.
What nationality is she?
What does her skin look like?

Again, I really loved her Omega 3 oil.

The Omega 3 oil was okay, but can get the same results with a health food store brand for a lot less $$. I don't know what nationality she is, I know she has an accent. Her skin looks a bit weathered, which is another indicator for me. The aesthetician I currently go to has gorgeous skin and doesn't make any promises. She just delivers results, which is why I go to her.

I'm sure Sonya Dakar works hard, but it seems her spa/treatments/products are all geared for celebrity clients because they are the only ones who can afford it, and get any time or attention there.

Skincare,
If the Omega 3 oil works for you, by all means continue using it. It's hard to find products that you love so I think you should stick with it. I use Camelia oil and DHC's olive oil which I get for much cheaper and am happier with the results. But you must remember my focus is on getting rid of hyperpigmentation and Sonya's products weren't effective on that for me.
