it hasn't turned color? Even if it's over a couple weeks old?
Grinding the crystals to powder before adding water seems to help the C to dissolve.
My skin seems to like the DIY recipe better than those I've bought. For some reason the purchased C serums cause little blackheads whether made w/PG or HA.

| I think it's been said that the Vit-c serum oxidizes pretty quickly, so it's only good for a week or two...but I can't remember - sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong |

I read on another list of a simple way to test the "freshness" of any Vitamin C serum.
Take an ordinary apple and cut it in half. Apply a drop or two of the Vitamin C serum and apply this to one half of the apple. Leave both halfs out on the counter ... making sure you can identify which is the Vitamin C half.
You should be able to tell within a few hours whether or not the Vitamin C is still active and doing what it's supposed to do. The half that wasn't treated will turn brown within a few minutes ... but the treated side should stay white for quite a few hours ... like 24 or more.
As long as it provides at least 24 hours of protection for the apple, it should be providing your skin with similar protection.
The fewer hours the apple stays white, the less effective the serum.

Yes, thanks! I always have apples on hand, so sounds like an experiment is in order. Don't want to be wasteful, yet no point in using an inactive serum.  |
