Hi Red Head,
I know what you mean about MMU being drying. I found that, but I like the lack of extra junk in MMU [the powder foundations] and I decided that I would work with it.
The first thing I do is make sure that my face is really well moisturized. To that end I made my own using various oils, some glycerin and coconut oil. The coconut oil provides a barrier to hold in moisture.
So I spritz my face liberally, and then apply my moisturizer. I let that absorb [while getting dressed and making the bed] and then I apply my makeup.
When I found that the powder still made my face look a little dry, I decided to combine the powder foundation with some oils [hemp seed, rosehip seed, etc] ... I mixed up a bit in one of the sample jars ... thus making my own "cream" MMU. I played with the proportions of oils to powder until I had the consistency that I liked.
It applies really easily ... and the end-look is a very hydrated face. It has the same great staying power as the powders do ... but it doesn't dry out and settle into my lines, or make my face look dry.
Now I have breakout problems ... so it's really better for me to make a cream foundation than it is to purchase one ... because I know that the oils I put in don't bother my skin or make me break out.
I suspect I will only need this while the indoor heat is on ... so I don't want to make too much at a time. However, it works well for me now ...
I just thought that this might be an alternative for you since you probably already have MMU in your makeup drawer ... and could test this out for yourself.
Good luck
Mary
ps ... I can post my moisturizer recipe if you are interested, as well as the oils combination that I mix with the powdered MMU. |

Hi RedHead:
I purchased 2 weeks ago the Chanel Tient Natural. I was actually looking to get the Chanel Tient Universel (oil-free, waterbased, fragrance-free), but the saleswoman talked me into the other one. Chanel Tient Natural caused my face to break out. It is a moisturizing formula and not made for people with oily skin. It is not oil-free, waterbased or fragrance free. I returned the foundation after 3 days and got the Tient Universel which is wonderful! I have not had any breakouts since (my skin is fair, oily and prone to mild breakouts). I am pretty much happy with it. The only thing I noticed about the Chanel foundations is they all have a "yellow" undertone. I am blonde, Irish and fair, and have more of a pink undertone. Wish there were more shades to choose from. |

Hi Mary,
I would love to see your moisturizer recipe. Where do you purchase coconut oil?
Thanks,
Deb |

| Funny you should mention the other Chanel foundation I wanted that one and the SA talked me out also-The sample of the one that you bought was washed off after only getting it on the cheek-Way to greasy-So I will get a sample of the one you have and the Clarins cream to powder |

Hi Debra,
I get coconut oil in my local health food store. It is a solid ... but melts at 76 degrees F.
If you put a bit on your fingers, it liquifies instantly ... and provides a barrier. However, on its own it can be quite drying, possibly because of the barrier it provides. I suspect [although I'm not certain ... not being knowledgable in such matters] that the barrier precludes any moisture getting in.
However, when mixed with other oils, and applied to a damp face, it holds that moisture in and keeps lots of yucky stuff from getting onto your skin.
I've post the recipe for both the moisturizer and the oil mix I used to mix in with my MMU powder foundation at the bottom of Page 16 of the DIY thread, if the following link doesn't work.

Good luck

| I don't wear any foundation but for years I've been using a Chanel concealer stick on any blemishes or spots, etc. I've found it to be the one concealer that blends in well and it doesn't leave the blemish looking all dry or crusty by the end of the day. |
