Hey ladies,

After 10+ years of highlighting my hair to a golden blonde colour I've decided to go back to my natural colour, a medium brown (level 6/7 in goldwell). We're also going to put in a hint of red highlight to warm it up.

Am I going to need all new makeup now?? I normally wear neutral, pink or gold tones...
When I started colouring my hair I was a blonde, now my roots look super dark...I'm a bit scared that I'll look super pale

Thanks

I recently posted about my hair color... and your post reminded me of my "red" year. I think I blacked it out.... red didn't really work for me. My mother actually cried, I think....

(Please note that I am not slamming red, in general. I think that natural browns looks fantastic with red highlights. Just not natural blondes with golden/olive skin tones... EEH GADS!!!)

Anyway, until it faded enough to tolerate, and before a few rounds of blonde replacement highlights, I did notice that I had to change color schemes a bit. I looked washed out in my everyday earth tones. I recall thinking that purples on the eyes looked nice, and pinker cheeks worked, too. I also remember liking deeper lip colors... like plums and berries.

One idea so that you don't spend a fortune experimenting is to get a free makeup application at a cosmetics counter (MAC would have a HUGE selection to play with), or to buy some cheapy stuff like "Wet and Wild" at a drug store to play with various colors. Then when you settle on the colors you like, you can scrap the cheapy stuff and splurge.

ENJOY YOUR NEW LOOK!

Hmmm...you know, I actually wear makeup that corresponds to my eye color and skin tone not so much to my hair. What kind of undertones do you have? What color are your eyes? Also, I've found more colors can work on everyone as long as you look at the undertones in it(ex, I can't wear reds with cool/pink undertones, but I can wear reds with warm undertones)I think maybe the colors you used before will still look lovely on you now. Your new haircolor sounds really pretty, though. Have you tried wearing green e/s? I bet it would look really nice on you. MAC Humid and Urban Decay Mildew are a couple of nice greens.

I -thought- I was wearing makeup that went with my skin tone...but I was wrong!!! I had ashy dark brown hair and then I lightened it to a light brown with a slightly reddish tint and it threw my entire color scheme! While I had been wearing pinkish lipstick and blush I had to switch to peach. However, my eye makeup and foundation remained the same. So...I guess my point is you'll possibly have to update but not replace your entire cosmetics collection.

I haven't actually got the hair done yet. I have my consultation and am doing it on thursday. The red streaks are not super red, more auburn. It's the same tone as the brown we're putting in, just warmer.

I've got brown eyes with a bit of green. My skintone is yellow-based. I wear MAC NC20/25.
