Hi Interloper,

The most cost effective version is the "home made" version.

Check at your local chemist's and see if they sell l-ascorbic acid [often marked as ascorbic acid ... but you have to check that it IS l-ascorbic acid] ... and you mix that with distilled water or a mix of distilled water and glycerin or Propylene Glycol.

You may even discover, as I did the other day, that the propylene glycol can be purchased through the pharmacist.

Good luck

Mary

Hi again Interloper,

You pharmacist doesn't know what l-ascorbic acid is?

Just tell her that it's the active part of ascorbic acid. If she hasn't heard of that ... well ... Laughing

The bottle that I have is labelled ascorbic acid so I contacted the manufacturer who confirmed that it is, in fact, l-ascorbic acid.

Ascorbic acid is an "umbrella" term for Vitamin C ...

If you explain that to her, she'll probably have a better idea of what you're looking for.

It could be that the terms are slightly different there from here in North America. Very Happy

Good luck

Mary

I checked with the Walmart pharmacist and he said they did not carry propylene glycol, but he said that a compounding pharmacy would. There was one across the street, so I went there. They said it was something that any pharmacy could order...I ordered a pint for $8.00-it sounded reasonable to me. So, if you are looking for this, and don't want to pay high online shipping costs, a pharmacy may be another option. Very Happy

I am using henry tianus antioxidant youthful essence which contains 20% stabilised vitamin C plus other vits. It is a great product and reasonably priced at £30.
