Hi mabsy, can I have some advice toooo!(Or anybody else that can help!)
I've previously had very congested skin and have been using jan marini glycolic products to keep it under control. A few months I'd decided I'd had enough with the struggle and started a course of roacutane. The results have been brilliant, I now have "normal" skin, YAY Very Happy
I'm now wondering whether I should lay off of the glycolic products a bit (I use glycolic clanser, bioclear cream, C-esta serum and eye cream)? I'm pretty happy with thes products, but I'm worried that using glycolic continuosly will leave me with leathery skin when I'm older? (I'm now 26) Or will it do the opposite and prevent wrinkles? I'm used to having oily, problem skin, and now I just don't know what to do!!
My skin is still slightly uneven, slight pigmentation, and ENLARGED PORES, so these are the main areas i want to concentrate on, oh and frown lines.

| if you use a good sunscreen the glycolic peels should not cause any leathery skin, it will do the opposite acutally, making your skin smooth and clear and minimize fine lines. I loved doing these peels cuz they made my skin look clear, more even toned and refreshed, but i had enlarged pores and depressed acne scars also and they didn't help much in that regard. |

| My skin is sensitive but glycolic peels and higher pH creams have been greta for removing fine lines. You just have to work up to high concentrations and low pHs and not overdo it. It does according to research articles thicken the skin as long as it is allowed to heal between applications. |

I think glycolic acid is good for removing fine lines and pimple marks cuz it peels the surface of your skin slowly. And it doesn't thin your skin so I don't think u'll have leathery skin when u get older.
I'm using Neostrata 8% glycolic acid daytime lotion with SPF 15. Do u know anything about this brand? What's the % of glycolic acid do u use? And does anyone here know if glycolic acid will conflict with mineral makeup? Anyway, I'll post and let everyone know how it's going with this product and if it's good or not. Hope someone can answer my questions, thank you! |

Thanks people.
Although I'm not using peels. I'm using Jan Marini facial wash and creams that have glycolic in them, similar to stardustdy I believe. I think I'll carry on using them but try the Dr Haushka cleanser and masks as I've heard loads of great stuff about those. I'm just worried that I'm stripping my skin with the glycolic,when I should be trying to nourish it. It's hard because I want to use it all, but at this rate I'll be putting on six different products a day!!! Aaah there's too much choice!
Could you have like a week of glycolic then a week of Dr Haushka? One week on, one week off?!!  |

I don't think you'll end up with leathery skin, unless you really overdo it and dry your skin out.
I use glycolic serums on a regular basis but I don't use a whole line of glycolic products. I think you should experiment with finding the right level of AHAs that suits you and not over do it. For example, for me, using an AHA serum once a day at night is perfect and I don't have to use an AHA cleanser to get better results (or at least I think I don't ). My "plan" is to have a bit of everything in my skincare - exfoliation, vitamin C, other antioxidants/vitamins, moisture, and SPF. |
