I started a new thread because mine aren't always hormonal. I have had migraines & stress headaches for 30 years, and each is as bad at the other. Over that time I have used every cure imaginable including stuff over the counter (thumbs down), prescription meds(some ok some not), TCM and massage therapy including cranial sacral & using oxygen - these last two working the best but they weren't always reliable either. I took advil, tylenol with codeine, asprin with codeine literally by the handful. Had cat scans & saw neurologists..........
I read extensively about botox for headache relief & after talking to my very open minded physician decided to try it. I haven't had a headache since August 17,2005. At times I have felt almost a phantom one coming on & have taken 2 advil (or whatever otc was around me) with 2 bottles of water and I don't know if they were really headaches coming on or just my imagination, but still not a single headache. I've been back for injections twice since -once in November & once last week.
It is truly something to look into. Insurance can cover it sometimes, too.
No more frown lines either  Medicinal botox! Ha! I love it. |

| Hi RuthMaarion - I also have found (serendipitously) that Botox can have a positive effect on severe headaches. The few times I've had injections between my eyebrows, I wouldn't get headaches in that region. But sometimes I'd still get them on the sides of my head. |

| Somebody else mentioned the Botox remedy a while back, I think it might’ve been Darren. Regardless, I printed out all the documentation I could find regarding Botox and migraines and took it to my next neurologist appointment and he said he’d had some patients who he treated successfully with Botox, then paused before he let the other shoe drop: it’s not covered by my particular type of health insurance because they still consider it “experimental.” I really don’t understand that because with the amount my insurance has to reimbruse the doctors and pharmacies in just a couple months would exceed the cost of getting the Botox injections!! It’s so frustrating because it’s seems like nobody really takes it seriously.... |

If your Doctor presents it properly your insurance will probably cover it. My Doctor indicated that muscle spasms in my neck and back were causing my headaches. My insurance covered it.
Also, if you contact the manufacturer of Botox, they will try to help you get it covered by your insurance.
I have been having Botox for my migraines for 5-6 years now. Nothing else helps like it does. |

How often do you have to go back for a "tune up?" |

| Jeeze, I've had the worst migraines-actually my doctor called them stress migraines. I remember going to the emergency when they first started-at that point it was 3 days & counting. It's hard esp. when you have young children. They gave me an I.V. pain killer. Took the edge off, but that's about it. My GP gave me zomig-it saved me. Till this day, I always have some around. One pill & the migraine's gone within half an hour. Plus, covered by insurance. |
