Hi girls....
i just started using retinol (again, after stoping a couple of months ago) and I heard that I need to use sunscreen during the day.
Can you tell me what your favorite sunblock is? I want something that is not too heavy and not causing breakouts. I used Peter Thomas Roth before, and even tho it says oil free, it still breaks me out a bit.
thanks.... Very Happy

<sigh> okay... while i am waiting for somebody to reply, I am researching EDS forum.. I am kinda interested in LRP Athelios. But I do not really understand the difference between the different products. I looked at their website, and they have creme, creme taintee and fluide extreme.
whats the difference between them?
can anybody explain? And also, where can I get them from beside ebay?
thanks

I've used every kind of sunblock from baby block to blue lizard. I especially like formulas with zink oxide, and natual sunblockers, since there isn't much research on what the chemical blockers that go into the skin to block the sun do. I have used skinceuticals which so far was my favorite because it's lightweight and not oily, and seemed to sink in pretty well. That's probably my favorite overall, but there are probably a lot of other good choices out there too. Smile

Hi! I think the LRP Fluide Extreme 60 is the one that gets rave reviews, but I don't what the differences are in their formulations Confused .
You might have better luck doing a board search...I did notice a very recent post regarding LRP and where to buy. My favorite is Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection 55 PA++, but I'd like to find something as good but less expensive since I go through it fast in the summer. I haven't tried the LRP yet, but if it's less costly than Shiseido's, I'll probably give it a try, too Smile hth

cream=thick cream
creme taintee=tinted cream
fluide extreme=almost like a greasy water, very liquidy.

Most acne prone prefers the fluide extreme as the cream tend to be thicker. You can get LRP s/s from ebay, physea.com, tubotica.com to name a few.

You can also read the reviews on MUA to get some feedbacks.

Most sunscreens tend to make my face shiny. Does the Fluide Extreme go matt on the face? Or do any of the others, please?

There's a long thread about sunscreen that I read in its entirety a few days ago. If you want to know about sunscreens settle in and read it. Try "badbird, sunscreen" search.

I used Skinceuticals (Physical) last summer; VERY good coverage and durability but not the best cosmetically (shiny / white cast)... as far as breaking out, a lot of that battle (for me) is in thoroughly removing the product w/ an oil or makeup specific cleanser w/ care, something I've slacked on in the past but am committed to this year - thanks to the wonderful cleansing methods discovered in this forum.
I got testers of Shiseido 55++ and Clinque City Block 40 yesterday... Both dry fairly quick on me, the Shiseido is more matte but like the tint of City Block - think they may work days when I'm out, but not active...IF I reapply on my top lip continually as I can't keep that area covered for long in the heat due to perspiration. And a hat. The Skinceuticals will be for days when I'm out and active (most days)..pool, hiking. And a hat.

I really want to find a sunscreen specific for the eye area...am I dreaming? Today I mixed the Clinique City Block 40 w/ my Loreal Visible Eye Lift and patted around my eyes; it's a hot and sticky day here and I played baseball w/ my son (read plenty of perspiration) and my eyes didn't sting. This may be the answer...if so I will mix a batch up in a separate pod.

I don't think it is your sunblock that is causing the break-out. You may have to visit a dermotologist to let them know that your skin need some extra help to exfoliate or, you could get regular professional micro. done.

Also...I happened upon a fab little product called Sportz Bloc that I picked up at Drug Emporium a couple of years ago...comes in a small .5oz tube. It' a Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide physical block w/ spf 20 and is tinted in three shades, light medium dark. It has great coverage (think Dermablend) and spreads easily w/ stick similar to Skinceuticals Physical. Crazy inexpensive! I plan on ordering some to protect and conceal a scar from a recently removed mole. A couple of summers ago I blended the light and medium for a perfect shade.

I plan to blend it w/ Skinceutical Physical (same active ingredients) for a higher spf.

I've checked every so often at drug stores but haven't seen it again...though it's probably carried somewhere. You'll find it online.

I'm loving Sofina Perfect UV with SPF50 and Pa+++ at the moment. I have to say I HATE using sunscreen because of the masky feeling/stickiness/dryness/distinct smell of sunscreen. Many recommend Shiseido Anessa but I bought it last summer and it still sits in my drawer being used only once until now. I usually go around the cosmetic counters and test their sunscreen on my hand, but they never convince me that I'll be willing to use them regularly.

The Sofina one melts into my skin upon application and leaves a matte and slightly powdery (?) finish which I never saw in other sunscreen. So I decided to buy it IMMEDIATELY. I used it for two days now and it did a great job in keeping my face matte all day! Very Happy The most important point is: I'm happy to put it on my face and apply much more than I would with other sunscreen (I know with the tiny amount I used before, I was not having enough protection as intended)!

So I would really recommend this to anyone with combination skin. Razz
