I believe it means they oxidized -- meaning that there's no benefit to using them any longer. I don't think it'll harm anything, but it definitely won't do any good! |

| I would avoid using any product that went through a dramatic color change! I've never had that happen and I've been using powdered vitamin C for health purposes for years. Perhaps you left the cap off? |

I just wanted to follow up -- are you talking about the dry, unused Vit-C crystals that you use to make homemade serum, or do you mean your Vit-C serum itself has turned orange? The reason I ask is because I've got a jar of Vit-C crystals from the Personal Formulator that I've had for about four months and the crystals are still is clear and white today as they looked when I first cracked the seal on the container.... |

Not the serum, the crystals. My serum is still clear. Its the batch you sent me, dear. I think it has something to do with our climate - it's really hot and humid here. I should've stored the crystals in the fridge.  A dark spot in my drawer cabinet wasn't protective enough Uwaaah! |

Vitamin C is hard to keep stable. When it turns orange or brown and gets a funny smell to it, it means it has oxidized (though I would use this as a scrub for the body or a mild scrub for the face, which will keep you from throwing it out). Humidity and warm air, as well as light hitting the vitamin C are all factors, as well as exposure to air. It's best to keep vitamin C in dark air-tight glass containers such as cobalt, keeping them from any extreme heat, light or air exposure. Keeping it in the fridge would be one way to help extend it's shelf-life if you don't have any cool, dry areas in the house. My serums tend to do that within a month of opening them, in which case I might continue to use it if it's just a little yellower in color, and if it turns orange-y I'll mix it in with some body moisturizer and use it on the rest of my body so I don't have to throw it away.  |

hi guys... do you know how long does the homemade vit C serum last?
I made mine hm... maybe 10 days ago. it still looks okay... but I just want to make sure that it still contains vit C and I am not just putting veggie glycerin on my face.

I usually make a fresh batch every 4-6 weeks. But if you notice the serum has begun to change from colorless to yellow or orange, it's time to pour it out and start from scratch. |
