I'm confused. Are you supposed to tip for:

1) a facial
2) glycolic peel*
3) microdermabrasion*

*at a spa

For some reason I would say yes on the facial but no on the other two? Am I wrong? Also what type of tip is appropriate?

it's been a looooong time, but:

1) yes
2) yes
3) yes

in all cases, someone is working on your face. do you not tip the woman or man who washes your hair when you have it cut or coloured in a salon? why should being in a spa be any different? i suppose you do not HAVE to tip, but it's usually done. (how much is usually tipped is up to the individual -- you.)

the only time, i admit, that it can get very squidgey is if you're at a very posh hotel/spa where they have you take all your clothes off, stick you in a towel with a key ring to a locker around your wrist. in this instance, the price is usually jacked up so high that tips are not expected i don't think. ( you're naked, right? where do you put the tip??? Rolling Eyes i could be wrong though....) they just hope you will buy a tonne of product and put it on your room bill

Bridget, the place I go has a nice little sign up front - "gratuity appreciated" Very Happy I have asked this question about how much to tip because I have a peel tomorrow. I have heard 20%, but someone else said that sounded high. I figure that is around what I tip for hair, so I guess it is fair.

It's been my experience that 20% is the norm. unless the service was horrible. I would tip at a spa no matter what the procedure. Micro's/peels at a spa are much different than at a derm/plastic surgeons office. JMHO. Smile
