Have you been to a dermatologist? I suggest inquiring about the prescription cream TriLuma. It got rid of my mother's melasma very quickly. After treatment with TriLuma it would be a good idea to pick up Skinceuticals Primacy Phyto + to continue dimishing any dark spots that may be left over and take care of ongoing sun spots.

Doinita,

You're welcome. My mother's melasma was actually pretty bad and covered her entire face. It was very visible even through thick makeup such as Dermablend. Surprised The bad thing is, for my mother it got worse as she got older. She is 38 right now and it increased exponentially in severity within the past few years. I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've had this problem, but it's best to treat it as soon as possible. With time and the effect of the sun, it is very likely that the melasma could increase.

TriLuma worked wonders for my mom and it worked extremely fast. You can only use it for 6 weeks, I believe, because it has a topical steroid in it that is harmful to the skin over long periods of time. It also has hydroquinone, a proven lightener, and retinol, a proven skin exfoliator.

Since it is such a potent product and can not be used for long durations of time, long term maintnance should be continued with Skinceuticals Primacy Phyto+. This product, though expensive, is very stable, relatively gentle to the skin for the type of product it is, and has kojic acid in it which is a safe skin lightener. This will help keep any future sunspots at a minimum (pending you use a good sunblock, of course) and continue the lightening and evening of your skintone.

No one can "help" another get a prescribed product elsewhere. If this product is not available in Canada, this may be presently being reviewed by Health Canada. It works both ways: there are prescriptions available in Canada that may not be FDA-approved.

Doctors cannot write cross-border prescriptions, nor can they prescribe without a license to practice in that country. Sorry to disappoint, but it's the truth. It would also probably cost you more to get a prescription in the States, as you do not have a paid drug-plan there, and prescription drugs tend to be A LOT more expensive without this, and altogether.

Hello,
I had melasma on my upper lip from birth control pills which looked like a mustache! I tried the retin-a/hydroquinone combination that i believe is the same as triluma but I had an allergic reaction to the hydroquinone. I think it depends on the type of melasma you have. After spending thousands of dollars on everything topical, I found a website by Vanessa Wild who wrote, Melasma - Is This the Clear Solution?. It basically talks about taking the supplement MSM to treat melasma internally. I think you can find it on amazon.com.

I tried it and can finally say I can go without concealor on my upper lip. It's not a quick fix but as you take it, you start to notice that the dark patches break up. So instead of having a big smear, it becomes little patches that eventually go away as well.

Vitamin C serums also helped a little after the MSM lightened other areas as well.

Hope this helps.
