Here is the report website. Gals may find your skincare safe or not. Have a look if you have time.

Wow.

That is certainly intersting.

Some of the stuff I have been using, or have ordered (not yet received!) is classified as having "Reproductive/developmental toxicity", "Classified as toxic", "Potential for harmful impurities"...etc. The list goes on.

I guess you have to take these with a grain of salt, but it is certainly an eye opener.

I wonder how they come up with these asssesments and if their assessment suggests long-term usage of these products will contribute to these health hazards (cancer etc.). Is this a direct causation??

I went to the Environment Working Group (EWG) homepage...it appears that they have "report" on a lot of negative issues that have manifested themselves, and it seems like it is their goal to educate the consumer and general public about their own agenda. It seems a little biased to me...

"Our research brings to light unsettling facts that you have a right to know. It shames and shakes up polluters and their lobbyists. It rattles politicians and shapes policy. It persuades bureaucracies to rethink science and strengthen regulation. It provides practical information you can use to protect your family and community."

Their motto is "The Power of Information".

Anyhow. Just my 2 cents...but it is an interesting site.

That is a really interesting site. And I agree ... it is kind of scary but then again, it would probably be hard to find any products these days that wouldn't rate at some level on their scale. I checked out some of the Dermalogica products I'd been using and one was rated at 3 point something. I would definitely use it to refer to out of curiousity ... I think it would be a good site to reference, but unless something rated really high I'm not sure if would make me stop using it. I guess I trust too much in companies doing full research on the safety of their products before they release them to consumers.

Thanks for pointing this site out ... I am going to bookmark it.

I looked at this site about a year ago and take a look at it once in a while.

puglove it also seems biased to me and when I look at their reports I certainly keep their biases in mind. I too feel that they have an agenda and let their agenda bias their results. They do have information on the site about how they do their assesments. I do disagree with some of their methodology.
Here's a link that discusses their methodology and how they do their assesments if anyone is interested.

I found this site a year ago or so and then saw an article on it in the paper a few times.. I do believe it to an extent but you have to understand they list products such as salicylic acid as dangerous... and it's so common in products. After I got over the initial shock I learned to read it more carefully and found that some of my products I thought were really bad at first, weren't so bad in my opinion because of the such high standards that company has for safety. What DOES really bother me however was reading that in America there is a REALLY low number of banned ingredients , where as the European version of what we have banned HUNDREDS of chemicals from their cosmetics. Why doesn't America have the same standards?
