Hi everyone,
I've been learning so much here at the forum this week about sunscreens. My only experiences are with physical sunscreen and I really want to try a more serious UVA blocker. I have narrowed it down to three brands. Which do you think would be the best one to try first
LRP
Avene
Biotherm
I have sensitive, acne prone skin with large pores and want the most matte of the three. Opinions please, greatly appreciated! |

The only one mentioned that I have used is Avene and although it is good for sensitive skin, I found the consistency very thick and it did cause me a few breakouts. There is a recent review on one of the LRP sunscreens that may be of help.

i've used biotherm's sunscreen and really liked it. only problem is i can't get it in australia, so i use shiseido's, but if i had the choice i would use biotherm. it's good for sensitive skin too.

I've tried various LRP sunscreens and Avene Extreme Sunblock Cream spf50 10A. It's a physical sunblock using titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
Pros -It went on fairly light without being too greasy or too white.
Cons - After a week's use, I found my freckles to look darker so discontinued using it.
I've used LRP Anthelios "L" spf60, Anthelios "S" spf30 and Anthelios Spray spf30. They all have Mexoryl but not the Tinosorb which is available in the European versions.
Pros - The "L" and "S" are similar in that they leave a shiny finish, and feel tacky but that can be remedied with loose powder.
Cons - I'd still be using them if only they didn't give me little red bumps on my cheeks.
The Anthelios spray has alcohol and will ball up unless applied in small amounts and spread quickly. At first I rubbed it in until it disappeared but then discovered that if I left a light visible coating, it would disappear on its own and in about 20 min, the shine and stickiness was minimal.
I still get some irritation with the spray but I use it when I know I'm going to be outside for prolonged periods. For general everyday use I'm sticking with my mineral makeup and a hat.
Conclusion - LRP makes better sunscreens, if you're not allergic to chemicals. There's also LRP Hydraphase UV spf30 that's a moisturiser and supposedly less greasy and shiny but I know one of the ingredients definitely won't work for me so I never bothered to try it. |

My fave of those three is the LRP. I like the dermo-pediatrics spf 40/PPD 18 spray. Not the lotion, the spray. It goes on thin liquidy then dries to a matte finish. Excellent UVA protection, too. I get mine off ebay from either lwsue or wasabina. |

Hi betterat40! It looks as though neither of these ebay sellers is currently offering the spray. Do you have any other resources?
And thank you all for your tips and links!
I checked out the biotherm products and there are so many to choose from! I'm currently looking at the white detox anti-redness and instant lightening as well as the pure bright you suggested, Christine. One thing they all have in common is an 25SPF/PA++. Anyone know what this means - good/bad? Is it any better than the LRP dermo-pediatrics spray?
TIA |

I recently just bought the Biotherm moisturizer/sunscreen. I like the smell, the fact that it's targeted for oilier skin, and it has a nice light feel to it without the stickiness or white residue like most sunscreens. The only thing that I could've asked for is a higher SPF. |

Oh, BTW, I'm talking about the "Biopur Melting Moisturizing Matifying Fluid SPF 15." HTH |

I second it! |

I like the LP Anthelios Fluid Extreme for the face. It's not as shiny as the Lait. |

I like the Avene Gel-Cream SPF 20/PPD 20. It dries semi-matte, it's not irritating (for a chemical sunscreen), and doesn't break me out. The sunscreen chemical is Tinsorb. |
