(if you write at all - I know people are carrying Palm Pilots around these days... )
I'm just an old-fashioned girl and I just love the romance of paper and pen/pencil. I've noticed that I like wooden pencils a lot, although some of the mechanical ones are nice. And I seem to prefer pencils to pens. when I do have to write with a pen I like ones with those gel inks, especially in those sparkly pastel colours.
So are you a pen or pencil person? |

I don't own a Palm Pilot and probably never will. I do use my computer to keep notes and reminders but I also back it up with good old pen and paper. My husband has woodturning as a hobby so I have a drawer full of pens that he has made for me. |

I'm addicted to fine point roller pens. They come in several colors (I love the red/green/purple/blue/black package) and write like a dream. They were a life saver in school when I needed to take notes quickly but legibly. When I need to use a regular ball point pen, I'm disappointed. |

At home I'm lucky if I can find anything other than a crayon to write with. Then pens in this house all seem to grow legs and disappear. But for work I only use Sensa pens. Has a comfortable squishy thingy where you hold it so avoid that little callous you get from writing too much. It's also nicely balanced and has a pressurized cartridge that will write in an condtions.
You may not need such a thing, but for me I'd be lost. Standing out at a scene in the elements (bitter cold, rain...) you need something that will always work, then once back inside to write the long narrative keeps me from cramping up. |

I used a PDA for the last few years but find myself turning to pen and paper more often these days. I use a silver ballpoint with a black fine point that DH gave me when we were dating. Occasionally I'll use a fountain pen with blue ink just to mix things up.
Candy8865 - I've got a Sensa but the refills keep leaking. |

I too prefer good ole sharp number 2 pencils.. probably because they're nostalgic? I prefer to write stuff down, I've lost a lot of info in electronic stuff, don't trust them anymore. Even with my computer if I'm typing up something, I print it out as well as save it. |

I prefer pens for work.
With day to day appointments - I use my Palm Pilot (Which also doubles as a GPS! Yay! *I have a bad sense of direction!)

I read this some time ago and thought it was rather humurous. No offense meant to US citizens.
"When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in
zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass
and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300C.
The Russians used a pencil." |

Smart Russians.
I'm into inexpensive pens. I'm fine writing with a Papermate pen. |

Same here!
I used to write an online journal, too, but then I kept forgetting my password so I've stuck with my dear old spiral-bound notebook!
A bit OT, but journal-writing has kept me sane, BION. I have been kept calm through all the turmoils in my life in my notebook. I don't write every day, though - just when something significant hits me, pleasantly or otherwise. Anyone else does that? (I write with my colourful gel ink pens in my journals BTW ) |

NO WAY! Of course this is the cynic in me. I see a journal as written evidence that can held against me at a later date if found! |

Hmmm, hasn't happened to me, but I don't use the Sensa refills. I think it's Parker that makes the pressurized refills I buy. |

You have a point! I am VERY careful with what I write, and re-read the entries often to see if I need to erase any of it. |

I don't know if I'm just overly pedantic.. but I can't seem to write legibly if I don't use a fine tipped and smooth roller tip pen or gel ink tip.
Also if for some reason I need to write with pencil, it has to be a mechanical 2b lead....... or else I just don't feel 'comfortable' writing..
And I still refuse to embrace technology, ie no phone/pda day planners for me, ever.
The most beautifully designed (and reasonably priced) pens have to be the Waterman Audace range... (but the default tip is a stupid thick ball point.. which you can replace with a nice baroque-style ink tip).
Here's a story about the quick life of my Audace pens......
I bought two through a friend who worked at my university bookshop, so they were only like $80 each instead of $120. I managed to lose both pens within six months.
First pen was lost when our car got broken into and the thieves took off with my school bag (which by the way had like $4 in coin and nothing useful to them )
Second pen I left in some computer lab and didn't realise until weeks later DOH.
Moral of the story, keep your nice pens in a vault and use it to only write your finest works. |

I hate pencils...pens only, wide or medium tipped. I loved papermate back in the day but it seems everytime I buy them they don't work |

I am a recovering pen junkie. I used to buy pens literally once every few weeks because either a) I kept losing them b) I got bored. And it would take me a half hour or so to pick out what pens I wanted.
But now I only use one type of pen and order it from one website. They are super thin (popular in Japan)...not the thinnest (.1 but still thin (.2.
http://www.jetpens.com/index.php/cPath/21_83_52
the most perfect pens...IMHO.
