where or whom are they from!?
Is this a naive question? I got my Valmont Renewing Pack and was reading the ingredients...then it hit me. What the heck DNA and RNA is in here?! |

A little while back I was searching for info on Valmont and found this on the Magnolia Spa website:
The Valmont Concept
After research that was as intensive as thrilling, the biologists of Valmont Laboratories developed a process for the extract of DNA and RNA which leaves the macromolecule intact, therefore retaining all its activity and vitality. High molecular weight DNA. The HP deoxyribonucleic acid used in the Valmont range is extracted from salmon milt.
I really don't know anything else about it. I have been wanting to try Valmont but have been reluctant because of the salmon stuff. I can't get past the "gross" factor!!
Edit: I just looked milt up in the dictionary.
milt: the sperm-containing fluid of a male fish.
If this is really where they get their RNA/DNA, NO WAY would I use it!!!!! |

After reading recent posts about the Valmont Renewing Pack (it sounds ideal for my skin) I decided to look into this further. I do not think that the source of the DNA/RNA is salmon milt.
The Valmont website (it took me forever to find the official site!!) has this to say:
Thanks to specific sourcing - soft salmon roe -and the fine-tuning of a patented extraction process, VALMONT guarantees HP DNA molecules of exceptional quality.
So it looks like the source is roe not milt. That is like getting it from caviar if I am not mistaken. That certainly has a lot less gross factor for me!!
I was going to email Valmont on this to clarify but I could not find any contact information. If I get more information I will be sure to share it. |

well, the one is salmon sperm (milt) - the another salmon egg (which is the caviar). either the same good or the same bad (there are no baby salmons without either one of them . . .) |

lin23 I cannot explain exactly why some ingredients have more of a gross factor than others. Although in this case I am glad that it is the caviar and not the milt!! I will eat caviar but I don't think I would EVER try milt!! |

OK, not getting gross here.. but it is not the first time I have heard that ..um, ahem, "milt" softens the skin |

I saw this the other day too and am a bit concerned about putting DNA on my skin...does anyone know the potential benefits (other than those already mentioned ) or risks? It doesn't seem like a good idea to me (based on my limited knowledge of DNA ) |

Trying to inject some seriousness back into the conversation.......
maddy I wonder about this too. The Valmont product are supposed to be very good at hydration and I think that one of the reasons that they are is the DNA. Hopefully someone will be able to give us more information on the benefits or risks of DNA/RNA in skincare.
I discussed this with my husband yesterday (finally a EDS thread that he finds interesting ) and he sort of agreed with lin about them both either being good or bad. I am also starting to wonder if I would want to put either on my face everyday!! |
