I am looking to purchase a vitamin C serum for my face and was thinking of purchasing either PSF 20% Vitamin C Serum OR the Vivier Treatment. Does anyone have a preference of one over the other? and why? Lastly, the Vivier website does not state the percentage of vitamin c in the serum. Does anyone know the %? Thanks advance. I was using Cellular Skin Vitamin C Serum, and loved it....however, I am looking to try something new. |

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Viver C 20% serum!!! Of the C serums I've used, here is my order of preference:
Vivier Vitamin-C IDS™ High Potency Serum 20--love the texture, which is somewhat thicker, less 'watery' and even a bit moisturizing. Feels wonderful on my skin and absorbs nicely. The results I experienced were similar to Skinceuticals CE+F.
Cellular Skin Rx--this is 12%, I believe. Great texture...similar to Vivier. Wish they made a 20%! Excellent product, especially for the price! Would not hesitate to go back to this when my skin needs a break from the 20% strength.
Skinceuticals C E + Ferulic--thinner texture, less slip, absorbs well, great results! This was my first C serum. I would not hesitate to go back to this....just prefer a bit more emollient texture of Vivier and CSRx.
Jason Beckett Vitamin C&C--thinner texture, but did appear to absorb well into my skin. I used only two samples of this, and did not purchase full size, just because of my texture preference.
Obagi Pro C serum 20%--currently using...trying to finish this bottle up quickly. Did not care for this. Watery, semi-sticky feeling if I apply too much. Quickly turned yellow....then orange, which, I've read, is a sign of losing potency. Does not appear to be as stable as the others I've used.
I'm in the process of making a similar decision, between PSF C 20% or Viver C 20%. I've never tried the PSF, but love all the other products I have tried, and have read wonderful reviews on the C serum. It's obvious that my skin is dry, and the 'moisturizing' texture is important to me, but I may be willing to give that up for a product that is just as effective, or maybe even more so, and more cost effective!
Decisions, decisions.
(But these are fun decisions. The EDS forum is such a wonderful outlet for me. Things at work have been a little stressful lately, but I know that when I need a quick break I can pop in, read a few threads and always end up smiling. Thank you, EDS and EDS forum members, for the escapes! Now I need to get back to work!) |

Debra - Many thanks for your feedback. Based on your great feedback (and other reviews from the forum), I will probably try the Vivier product.
I agree with you on the cellular skin Vitamin C product, great product but I wish they had a 20% formula .
If you do try the PSF 20% Vitamin C, please let me know what you think. I do really like their Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, and their cleansers. |

I use and love the PSF 20% Vit C serum. I know they sell samples, have you looked into getting a sample of the 20% before you purchase something else???? |

I have a bottle of SC C+E+F. Unfortunately, I break out every time I use it. My friend told me she did not have any problem with it and it controls her oily skin very well. Does any of you have any problem with it? |

Hi, I'm using dr renaud C+ serum. It's almost pure vitamin C, ie, with no other ingredients added. Works well for me because i have very sensitive skin, yet helps to relief the tautness. However, if you have very dry skin, this may not be moisturing enough. |

I love the Vivier 20% serum (and also the Vivier KineC) - after all the serums I have tried these were the best. I am currently using a sample of the PSF 20% serum and I must say that it seems *very* good so far. It has a similar texture to the Vivier, maybe slightly less slip but I'll be seriously considering getting the PSF 20% when my sample runs out unless there are some other things that come up that I am not yet aware of (like it turning colour quickly etc). |

i actually have broken out from every vitamin C serum i tried until i found IS Clinical Pro-Heal. not only does it not cause acne, but many people have had clearing of it as well. you might want to get a sample of this. |

Mabsy, my bottle of psf 20 percent is over half gone, and its still clear. I'm pretty impressed considering the JB stuff I had turned orange. |

I recall some people having trouble with the addition of the ferulic. Perhaps it's this rather than the vitamin C overall that is causing the problem?
razinkane - thank you for the update! Looks like that the next one I will buy Though, I have to also add that my JB serum stayed the same colour for absolute ages! |

really? Maybe it was just me. I loved that stuff, as far as texture and sinking in, but I wanted to move to something stronger. I don't even know the percentage in jb but I knew it wasn't 20. Do you know what it is? I kind of want to go back down to a 12 or 15 percent. |

Of all the Vit C serums I have tried, the J & B Vit C was the only one that retained its original colour even after being opened for 6 months so IMO it is one of the most stable. I think it uses two different forms of Vit C and in my case, did not cause any breakouts plus I liked its consistency and was easy to apply. I don't know what the percentage is. |

Just ordered some to add to my routine. I looked at a lot of reviews before I settled on JB's but you finally convinced me. |

I have psf c serum, and I tested using the method that I learned from this site ( can't recall who mentioned it, seems like carkate?), cut an apple into two small pieces, and then applied the C serum into one of the surface of the apple, and then left it there, after half hour, I came back, the one piece that didn't have serum on became yellowish...the one with serum on stayed in that original color untill six hours later......I as very amazed. Looks like PSF C serum is a good stable one.
I have only used for about a week, so don't know if it's effective on my Melasma or not yet. |

Hi Mabsy, I really like the sound of Vivier 20% serum. Can this be purchased on EDS online? Thanks! |

Mabsy, what do you mean by less slip? Is vivier great for oily skin? |

jcw - Yes, EDS stocks this
razinkane - it is not as moisturising/oily as the Vivier (just marginally). Oily is the wrong word, but essentially it's slightly more watery I guess. *Slightly*. Generally I wouldn't recommend Vivier for oily skins but that is just based on my preference. I would imagine that if you have oily skin you'd prefer something very light and watery that also felt a bit drying - like the regular serums from Skinceuticals and Cellex-C for example. |

Thank you Mabsy, you are right. It must be Ferulic acid, because I don't have any problem with SC's C+E. Too bad they don't have C+E any more. |

I love Skinceuticals and Vivier. Emergin C was okay but like Cellex C oxidised very quickly. I am planning on trying PSF EmergenC next. |

Hi...I read a lot about the advantage of vitamin C for the skin and so decide to get one soon.
May I have a question for those Vitamin C users...I have pale and dry skin, how much percentage do I need? Is it higher the better? Is weather a concern? TIA |

I'd suggest you start out with a lower percentage (10% unless your skin is super sensitive) and go for a serum that is not so watery - so something by Vivier, PSF, JB, CSRx for example. |

Thanks so much Mabsy! Some more questions for you...Should I put on the Vit C serum in the morning or night time? If I just want to add the vit C into my daily routine, will it be used before all other skin care products? |

Your C serum will be used after toner (if you use one) and before other products you use, with possibly some exceptions (e.g. Janson Beckett Skin Prep Gel, but that can be used over the C serum anyway). Some people use the C serum at night and some use it during the day. I'm one of those that use it during the day as I want the increased protection for my skin while it's exposed to the sun. Studies have shown (from what I recall) that using C serum at night can increase collagen, however I am not sure if this also happens if you use it during the day (why wouldn't it?). If you do a search for this you should find a nice long discussion about the pros/cons of using vit C in the morning or at night. HTH |

I did not know that using C serum at night can increase collagen. Maybe, I should try using it at night too. Just not sure where to fit it in since I use Retin-A at night. |
