| I'm going to be teaching swimming lessons for the summer, which means I'll be submerged in water half the day for 3 months. Thankfully, it's an indoor pool, so I don't have to worry about sun protection! But the chlorine could really cause problems for my skin and hair. What should I do? |

When I took my eldest to the hairdresser a while ago her hair was a bit brittle and I mentioned it was due to the public swimming pool. She said there are products you can buy especially for it, I think I've even seen some in the supermarket. But she said just add some bi-carb soda to your shampoo when washing it and that works just as well. I know bi-carb mixed with your shampoo can help with product build up, so this might work.
As for your skin, I'd definately be showering as soon as possible after getting out of the pool to get the chlorine off.
BTW, I think tog companies like Speedo etc might even make their own shampoo conditioner for swimmers hair.

I've seen a few shampoos for chlorine as bathing suit stores and swim shops. I suggest keeping the hair out of the water and rinsing off between classes whenever you can. At the end of the day take a long shower with a moisturizing soap and apply some moisturizing cream as well!

I used to do swimming training years ago. I was in the pool for 2hrs 7 times a week. Even though I would shower regularly, people would often comment that I smelt like chlorine.
My sister also was a swimmer and her bedroom smelt like chlorine.
I guess your body must absorb a certain amount of it.
