I don't know if this topic has been addressed before, but I was wondering how long one should try out a new product before deciding if it is beneficial or not? I was wondering about both topical skincare products and products taken internally (vitamins/supplements for the skin). TIA

well, it bascially takes the skin one month to turn over, so there is one month... others then say you need to add a week for time for your skin to adjust.

I usually say 6-8 weeks for at least some change, but some things like anti-wrinkle etc need months andmonths to slowly change.

I'm always looking out for the product that gives me a 'wow' factor overnight - first thing in the morning.

For me, I can usually tell if a product will work for me or not after a few uses. First time would be the irritation and after-feel test. And if it's a worthy product then I would expect results within a fortnight.

But as I haven't tried the anti-aging stuff yet, I'm sure those products would take a longer time to see definite results.

As for internal supplements, it could take weeks to months to have an effect, depending on 1. how much your body is needing the vitamin/mineral, as your body replenishes any deleted stores you may start to feel more results and 2. the quality of the supplement, some are poor compounds and just get metabolised or flushed out (ie heavy doses of vit b = green pee Shock ).

Thanks tiger_tim and miranets! Your responses make total sense. I guess I want to see an overnight "miracle" or I tend to give up too soon if I don't seen anything positive really soon. As for the negative side, if I feel like a product causes breakouts (even though it may be a coincidence), I discontinue it immediately before giving it a chance. With the internal vites/supplements, I wasn't sure if I should wait 1 or 2 months before making a decision.

If you start using a product with actives in it there's a pretty good chance you're going to be breaking out for that first week.

Yea, regarding the anti-wrinkle one, it takes at lease 3 months to get the result.

But the SKII mask is exceptional coz you will get the result only after 1 try.

I've only used SKII Facial Treatment Essence for about 2 weeks and my beautician notice the improvement of my skin. Some whitening products can instantly brighten my skin up in just one try. Not sure if it is an illusion or short term effect though.

Personally, things like mask, serums show effect within 2 weeks but I guess cleanser and toners takes a little longer to prove themselves.

Hi, Natning,

You said serum gives you effect within 2 weeks.
What brand it is? So far I haven't found a good serum that show effect yet. Confused

Usually I know within a few days if a product is liking my skin. Certainly within that first few days I know if I hate it. Bad Grin Either I respond very quickly, get a rash or have no response at all. Rarely, if ever, have I broken out or peeled using any product. Certain products over the years have caused contact dermatitis and I know immediately they are no, no's for me.

I have been searching for a new eye cream. EDS has sent me several samples with my last couple of orders: Cellcosmet, Valmont, Jan Marini, Sothys, Pevonia, etc. Out of all those samples I knew immediately that Pevonia, a line not talked about much on EDS, was the only eye product that had a positive affect on my eye area (lightly hydrated, reduced puffiness and firmed).

Vitimin C Serums or creams have always either agreed with me or caused immediate dryness or irritation.

My skin is one of those quick learners or failures. Laughing

I am with everyone else regarding supplements. I starting taking an antitoxin supplement a few months ago. I am glad I stuck it out as I am just starting to notice the benefits.

I agree with Ocha that SK-II has really good serum, and their mask is their "star" product too !

Thanks for your input, everyone! Now . . . I'm wondering how to tell if a positive result is due to topical treatments/products or internally taken vites/supplements. My problem is that I'm continually trying out new things, so if things were to be going well, I wouldn't know if it were because of my skin care regimen or something I'm swallowing. Or maybe it would just be a cumulative result of EVERYTHING? hmm

I find that if I quit taking antioxidant vitamins internally, my skin shows it very quickly. Topicals have always taken a good couple of weeks for me to see any difference at all (anti-aging). However, if you want the dramatic overnight effects, light peels are the best, ie, lactic acid, etc.
