Have been to Tokyo, Osaka for a few times and stayed in hotels coz I joined tour each time.
Planning to visit Japan again but want to stay in a place (I don't know what it called) which is offering by the citizens there, like bed and breakfast. It is much cheaper/
Which website in English (not in Japanese) I can find those places?
I guess tiger_tim can help. |

| I think what you are talking about is a ryokan, a traditional inn. I don't know any websites for those--- tiger_tim might be able to help, tho. However, if you are looking for a unique experience, I would HIGHLY recommend a love hotel! Love hotels are places that rent rooms by the hour (wink wink), but if you show up later in the evening you can get the room for the whole night for cheaper. The decor is hard to describe, but different rooms invariable have different "themes"--- a rustic theme, hello kitty theme, city skyline theme, etc etc. (My husband and I always stay in the Star Cresent in Shibuya!!) Anyway, I know it sounds weird to stay in a room like this by yourself, but it comes with a huge bed and an ENORMOUS hot tub, all for around $100 US a night. |

right, it is called ryokan.
I want to go by myself ths time but I doubt whether I can communicate in English coz I have only learned Japanese for 6 months. |

If you are thinking of B&B type, do you mean Pensions or Minshuku?
As for the Ryokan, there are lots of great ones throughout Japan and singles can usually do it pretty cheaply. Dont worry about language. My cousin travelled all over the place here and she could barely say hello (but she could order a beer!)
If you decide you want to stay in an actual hotel, then look into business hotels, they start from around US$50 a night. The Tokyu Inn group do a lot of cheap business hotels too.

Kimi is where I lived for the first month I came to Japan. It is a great base and becasue they have so many foreign guests it is often easy to pick up a travel buddy for a day/night out!! It is also cheap at only 4500 yen (under US$40) a night for a single. |

Re business hotels, sorry it is Toyoko that I meant to type, not Tokyu.
Toyoko singles in Tokyo are abour 6800 yen (just over $55) a night. Outside of tokyo they are even less (about $45) per night.

| Yes, those "drawers" are called "capsule hotels." They're much cheaper than a regular room so they are favored by business men. The "rooms" are like little capsules, just big enough to sleep in (not even big enough to stand up in, tho.). Personally, I've never been to one. I've heard that many of them don't allow women to stay there because of the safety factor... (not that I would stay at one anyway, mind you...) |

Goodness...think I would be too claustrophobic. Is there a website? sorry am off the topic but I can't imagine how these would work (at the moment am having v strange mental image of capsule hotel, including actually getting into the capsule).

The capsule hotel is interesting but it seems a little bit scary to me! 
I think I perfer Ryokan.
Also I really like to stay in the love hotel which Manslayerlist talked about. |

I have only ever been twice, to an "onsen" at a ski resort. I have no problem with them but if I go I want to be alone.
I never go for onsen weekend with my husband as it seems so stupid to go away and then he has to go to the mens one and me to the womens. Some places have baths you can reserve for an hour or so - which means your family can have it privately.
It is common for groups of coworkers to go together but I have never gone.. somehow the though of wandering butt naked in front of the people I work with every day just does not sit well (or worse SEEING the people I work with everyday butt naked)  |

| HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'm with you, tiger_tim, when I was in Japan the thought of seeing my Japanese co-workers naked sent shivers up my spine! However, with friends or strangers, I was surprisingly OK with the whole weird group bathing thing. Still, I haven't been to an onsen in ages. Like you, I don't want to go just to have to go to the ladies side and send my husband off by himself to the men's side. Worse, my husband doesn't speak a word of Japanese, so I don't think that sitting around naked with a bunch of Japanese men while his personal translator gets every inch of her skin buffed in the spa room ranks high on his list of things to do, LOL! |
