I use Green Cream level 9, and I always wait 20-30 minutes before I apply anything else to my face. Sometimes I use a moisturizer, and sometimes I just do not feel I need it. I do love the Green Cream, though! |

Hi Tazorac users. I am tagging on an odd post, hopefully those who are using Tazorac will read and respond. Here is my question: I have used Tazorac in the past (it has been a while now) so I can not remember if I liked the results or just moved on for some other reason, but lately I am really hating my skin (for about 5 months now), clogged pores, small breakouts (daily about 5-6) everyday..so I am thinking about going back to Tazorac (or my friends suggested Differin-not sure which to try), so I am using a retinol based product neutragena Night Cream, which I like....but can I also use Tazorac with it? I have been using the Neutragena for quite sometime now, so my skin is used to it. I was using a BP RX after my retinol and a user said NO NO NO, I am cancelling them out....thoughts on layering Retinol and Tazorac? |
Hey Bergquis,
Tazorac is a great choice! I don't personally use it (I use Tretinoin), but its the best for acne and equal in strength to tretinoin for anti-aging. Do not layer Retinol and Tazorac...Tazorac uses Tazarotene which is about 20X more potent than the retinol you are using. The only thing you would be doing is increasing irritation which will compromise your skin barrier. So Tazorac does all the work of your retinol plus a number of other benefits. Differin is effective for acne, less effective for anti-aging. Tazorac on the other hand has been proven to be better than .1% Differin for acne and is extremely effective for anti-aging. Personally I think you should go with Tazorac. Tazorac is the best for pore and will refine your skin texture, tone, and brightness plus reduce photodamage and stimulate collagen and elastin. Instead of using your Neutrogena with Retinol you could use a regular moisturizer with Tazorac, but make sure to wait 30-60 minutes before applying it. So No to retinol, yes to Tazorac! |

Hi Ocean 14, thanks for the advice, I actually have been using both since I made the post and had not heard from anyone. So here is what I do...I use the Retinol on my face when I get out of the shower, immediately while my face is still damp. I apply a liberal amount and then wait 30 minutes. I then come back and "spot" treat, light light application with the Tazorac. I cover the spots that I have the most problem with acne spots and clogged pores. Which right now are my cheeks. I also spot treat a blemish or two. I have NOT been using my BP at all...Not even in the AM. Since I have been doing this, only a couple nights now....my skin looks great! (no jinx, no jinx), so it seems to be working, but I do understand what you are saying...Maybe since I am only spot treating with the Tazorac, I have not had any problems. |

The tazorac website says to moisturize before applying taz. I recently began doing this and I have a lot less "peelies." |

If you just started using Taz you will always have peelies, even if you moisturize first. Go light and eaze into the usage. Also make sure when you are applying that you do not use more than a PEA size for your WHOLE face.
Good Luck |

[quote="tam"]Hi,
I am new here. First of all, I have to say how much I've enjoyed reading many topics in this forum -- everyone is so helpful!
So, here is my question: Is it okay to use a moisturizer after applying retin-a? I know with Green Cream that you aren't supposed to; but how about with retin-a?
Thank you!

Hi, Tam,
To my knowledge of this molecule, you should use it alone, and at night, if you want to take all of its anti-oxidant benefit. But it's also no hurt if you put some other stuff upon. Besides, it's hard for you to buy 100% retinol-A as skincare, the producers will nevertheless add some stuff for its marketable value.
enjoy
