Hi guys! I have problems with the pores on my nose!! They look bigger & bigger but I never get any blackheads only like one or two but thats not the cause for the pores?! I have oily T-zone therefore it gets shinier than my cheeks and then it maximizes the pores on my nose!! What kind of stuff should I use? Currently I'm just using:
AM:
Mild Foaming cleanser
Vit C
Makeup
PM:
OCM
Rinse off w/mild foaming cleanser
2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
I recently have done aspirin mask twice in the last two weeks and noticed an improvement in redness. My only problem is the pores on my nose. I dont know why it looks so huge! Should I use Dermalogica Microfoliant? Thanks!

What about using a toner after cleansing, this should help to close up any large pores.
Also a few drops of Jojoba Oil applyied after the Vit C Serum should help to regulate oil production on your T-Zone during the day. |

Are you absolutely CERTAIN that there isn't any debris clogging your pores? There is no way to actually shrink the size of your pores but you can minimize their appearance by ensuring that they are kept clean without gunk which makes them look bigger. There are also products that will temporarily tighten them so they appear smaller, one of which is one of my holy grails, the infamous Milk of Magnesia trick: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=13240 Another is to use a homemade mask consisting of egg whites, although I can't recall the exist recipe off-hand so you might take a look at the DIY thread. |

What kind of foundation do you wear? I noticed I got a lot of blackheads on my nose when I switched foundations. When I used a water based oil-free foundation I had no problems but now... |

I have HUGE pores on my sides of my nose. but since being on Retin A for six months, I have been able to keep them clean and tight. Yes, even if you have large pores, they can be kept tight.
I had a facial a few weeks ago and the esthetician said I had great pores even though they were large. so Retin A or some kind of retinoid that works for ya is great to keep them tight. toners are another good way but those are still pretty harsh on your skin. |

Well, Since I have been using the Aspirin Mask (once/twice a week), the large pores on my nose have reduced and less blackheads.
Also, I have heard Fotofacial rejuvanation (performed in laser/cosmetic surgery places) reduces them by 20%. I have yet to hear anyone that has had Fotofacial say anything about the size of their pores, but i'm quite curious as I will be getting it soon for my roseacea, along with the good side effect of decreasing pore size. |

beta hydroxy acid (salicylic acid) products have helped clean out and reduce the look of my pores considerably. |

Pele,
I had a series of 6 IPL(Photofacial/Fotofacial) treatments and it did reduce facial redness but it did not reduce pore size on me. The only thing that has worked on pore size (or the appearance of pore size because you can not actually change the pore size/structure) has been TCA, Glycolic peels and Retin-A. |

I agree with Anna. I have been getting 60% or 70% glycolic acid peels done once a month for the past two years and they have really "refined" my pores. I never had what I would consider large pores but I did have clogged pores and they look so much better since I have been getting the peels. |

Any side effects from the peels? Are they easy? Expensive? |

I tried what the clinic calls detoxification peel before my blue light treatment... went for 4 treatment, didn't seem to do much for me... maybe 4 is not sufficient to see an effect but it's too costly to continue as I was told to do 1 every week. |

I have been using ACNE TREATMENT MUD from PURE SKIN on the T-zone as a mask, especially the nose area. It is cheap and I think it works. After I put it on, I wait for it to get dry and I can really feel it working, removing the excess oil and shrinking the pores. |

Pele, I have purchased the Glycolic peels off the internet from Platinum Skincare and they work very well. You can start at lower percentages and work up since this companies stuff is VERY strong! Much stronger than some other places that I bought from. There have been others on here that have also written about Platinum Skincare so maybe you could search these boards. Overall I am very pleased with them and their products. I've also bought my TCA peels from them as well. They also give out nice samples of other products that you might like to try.
The peels are very easy to use. They come in bottles with little squeeze stoppers. You just put some drops on a cotton ball and swipe on your face. They all come with instructions. Platinum Skincares peels are a little more expensive than those sold on other sites and Ebay but I have found them to be far better, stronger and more effective. In the long run you are probably paying less for their products because theirs are more concentrated and not watered down.
No I don't work for them. But I have bought from them 4 times so that tells you that I'm a happy customer. |

Hmmm....the peel sounds intruiging. Sometimes I think I'm doing too much to my face and I should just let it be natural and wash with water.
Then I stare at all my blackheads and go out and buy products. I'm torn between products and trying to just let my skin be natural.
Anyone else feel this way? |

I feel this way too. My skin gets tired of products so quickly. Whenever I use a new product, my skin react positively...but after a couple fo weeks, the problems return again. Sometimes I just feel like leaving my face along to get the message across..."hey skin, get used to this"... but I'll never win... if the skin can talk, it'll probably be telling me "fine, u r the one living in it... "

pele I have considered doing my own peels but for now I get them done at my dermatologists. I pay $50 per peel. When I first started the peels I started out with 20% and worked my way up to %70, it was a series of 6 peels spaced 2 weeks apart then once a month maintenance after the series. So yes it is a little pricey in the beginning. Side effects are redness that usually goes away in 24 hrs., peeling and flaking for 3 or 4 days, sometimes there are raw spots which go away in a few days then leave a pink mark that takes a few months to heal and sometimes with the stronger peels I end up with crusting that sort of looks like a brown brush burn- this always heals completely and my skin looks awesome but when I have this on my face I avoid leaving the house because it looks horrid. Sometimes I think about stopping the peels because the benefits seem small compared to the hassles. I don't know though I guess I could do weaker peels or have them done less often. I haven't decided yet. |

I use the OCM with salicylic acid added that has made the pores on and near my nose look better. I saw a product advertised on the WEB for pore reduction with pics but it was just glycolic/lactic and citric acid mixed. I do my own home peels (from Personal Formulator) but do not let it go so I get crusting just a bit of redness. I haven't seen this to eliminate pores as they claim but it does get rid of fine lines. |

those of you that are getting facial peels..are you avoiding the sun?? My skin clinic advised that I come back in the fall (I guess because I live at the beach and am out in the sun more now.) |

yeah.. you should avoid the sun after the peels. The skin will tend to absorb more sunlight since it is thinned. Do you know how can I avoid the sun? I bought a UV protection Umbrella and use it whenever I go out during the day. Oh, and I wear a cap too...Double Protection!!! |

For those of you thinking of doing heavy-duty peels at home, you might like to read this cautionary tale from the inimitable GuapaGirl: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=2156&highlight=burnt and be extra careful!! |

I have very visable pores on my nose and just around it and I have been using a couple of Neutrogena products...most recently Clear Pore Toner and it has really made them less visable. I use it all over my face and it does make it very smooth. |

I totally avoid the sun for a few days after my peels. Otherwise, I always use sunscreen, I use a very strong sunscreen if I will be out in the sun, I wear a cap when I am out in the sun and I am also thinking of getting an umbrella. I lived by the beach for 5 months and if I were living there now I would not be getting peels during the summer. I think that you got good advice on the peels Chrissie. |
