I know Hydroquinone of course. Can you share experiences with what worked or what you learned that did not work well when trying to keep a sunless tan for the summer? |

I just found out that toner removes sunless tanner. I used a sunless tanner yesterday (L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Towelettes--LOVE EM!) and this a.m. I used a toner on my face and I noticed that some of the "tan" came off on the cotton pad and my face is lighter now. Darn--the color was perfect and even camouflaged my sun spots/melasma a little!
So . . . I tried the toner on my heels to help even out the color--and it kinda' worked there, too. Not perfectly, but it DOES take some of the color off.
So caution when using any type of toner after using sunless tanning products |

In my experience: Glycolic acid, salicylic acid, retinol, epidermal growth factor, citrus oils, some foaming cleansers so probably sodium laureth sulphate, and oily products applied to soon after application. |

I was wondering the same thing! I discovered the issue with toner awhile back
My understanding is the active ingredient in sunless tanners - DHA - works on the top layer of skin (it doesn't penetrate) and this is why it fades so quickly. Because the outer layers are continually sloughing off.
And a lot of these anti-aging products include ingredients that are supposed to speed up the cell turnover rate, and remove the upper layer of dead skin. (not sure if I'm saying that correctly)
I'm looking into sunless.com to see if there's any helpful information.
At this point, when I've applied a sunless tanner (not the gradual kind - but the full-on self-tanner with bronzer), I skip toner for a couple of days, and just use moisturizer with antioxidants and sunscreen - but not retinol, glycolic acid, etc.
After a few days I exfoliate and use all the facial steps/products for a couple of days, then go back to tanning.
I've done this for the last few weeks. Also, when I use the self-tanner, I only need minimal makeup (no foundation or blush), so it's not like I need the deep cleaning to remove makeup. My skin is in better shape due to the lack of wearing daily makeup. |
