I used clindamycin for the first time last night and it dried up a cystic pimple I had on my cheek so that this morning it was flat, but its also dry and flaky there now, but who care, its almost gone, hehe.
Anyway, I had a few questions about this and was wondering if anyone could help me out.
Does this topical cream help alleviate any redness. I've done a search and can't come up with anything solid.
If I had rocesea would this be what the doctor ordered?(I'm going to have to give in and take that referal to the derms)
Can I still use my vit. c and all my other things. Would I apply my vit.c over it?
I read on here it could cause yeast infections?
What kind of yogurt do I eat to prevent it? Thanks everyone so much. Sorry if it sounds needy and whiny. Very Happy

I use it for a spot treatment here and there, but not often on my face because it makes it peel around the spot along with drying it up. It does not do anything for redness on me. I find that proheal doees as good a job.

I've been using clindamycin topical solution (a liquid) for a few months and LOVE it. I have found that it has helped my redness, and cleared up my skin. I still get about 1 pimple a month during pms, but it is much smaller and goes away much quicker than they used to. Sometimes I get the beginning of really small ones, but it's like it keeps them from really becoming pimples. I haven't had peeling even once, and I have also started using a glycolic acid toner (aqua glycolic). I don't even need moisturiser (I'm oily) and I use MMU.

I have recently started looking up rosacea because I suspect I might have the beginnings of it, and from what I read clindamycin is something they would prescribe for it. Maybe that's why it has helped my redness so much.

I think you might have read my post about yeast infections, I didn't get one last month, and I think either my body adjusted to it, or I was eating too much sugar during pms and that's what caused it.

I asked the pharmacist if I should use the clindamycin before or after I used salycilic acid, and she said to put the clindamycin on before anything. I do use it after my toner, but I think of the toner as part of the cleansing process, I guess.

Does the cream you're using have any other ingredients? I think I've heard of clindamycin having salicylic acid added, maybe that's what caused the peeling? Sorry this turned out so long, but I hope it helps. If you have any other questions, just ask. Smile

Yes, I think it does have salycilic acid in it. And yes, it was your post I read. I think I have the beginnig of rosecea also. I am quite sure and now I don't know what to use on my face. I guess I will go to the derm but I hate to if I can alleviate the redness and breaking out on my own. My worst fear is that it will get severe, so I am wondering if I should go so it dosen't. I just want to get rid of the redness and pimples and not let it get any worse than it is.

Wait, are you using topical clindamycin or oral? I think its only the oral that you have to worry about getting yeast infections from and would want to eat yogurt (as a form of probiotic).. I don't THINK you have to worry about that with the topical but I'm not sure. What kind are you using? The liquid that has the little spongy tip kind of applicator, the gel or the light liquidy lotion? I've got all of those but prefer the liquid with the applicator. I really love clindamycin, my skin is great these days and I think clindamycin may be one of the reasons. How often do you use yours a day? I use it about twice, and always make sure to use it when I'm done working out/being all sweaty because it kills whatever bacteria may be left over from sweating.

My doctor prescribed for me when I had acne problem. It didn't get rid of my acne. So I have to say that it didnt work. I made my skin every sensitive to the sun. I end up taking Diane 35 (birth control pill) for 2 months to stop the acne.

I use clindamycin about 2-4 times a week if I feel like a pimple will come up. My dermatologist told me that it kills bacteria and prevents bacteria from growing that causes pimples. So, I'm not quite sure it would be effective for rosecea or the redness. Works great as my pimple reducer though.

This is from Rosacea.org:

Q. How is rosacea treated?

A. The signs and symptoms of rosacea vary substantially from one patient to another, and treatment must therefore be tailored by a physician for each individual case. In general, various oral and topical antibiotics, as well as other medications, are commonly prescribed to treat the bumps, pimples and redness often associated with the disorder. When appropriate, laser treatment or other surgical procedures may be used to remove visible blood vessels, reduce extensive redness or correct disfigurement of the nose. Ocular rosacea is commonly treated with oral antibiotics and ophthalmic therapy.
Rosacea patients are also advised to identify and avoid lifestyle and environmental factors that may aggravate their individual conditions.

Q. Why are antibiotics prescribed for rosacea? Is it a bacterial infection?

A. It is unknown exactly why antibiotics work against rosacea, but it is widely believed that it is due to their anti-inflammatory properties, rather than their bacteria-fighting capabilities. Normal skin surface bacteria are affected by antibiotics and their role is being investigated.

Q. What medications are used for rosacea besides antibiotics?

A. Physicians may use a variety of medications to help control rosacea in individual patients. Products containing a sulfur drug or azelaic acid may be prescribed as an alternative or adjunct to antibiotic therapy, and a cardiovascular medication is sometimes used to control severe flushing. Other medications may also be considered, especially in cases that do not respond to initial therapy.

Hope that helps!

I was given clindamyacin gel as part of my treatment for rosacea. It worked well in conjunction with alot of things. I now keep a tube handy and if I start getting bumps or pimples I put it on before bed and its gone by morning. I was instructed to only use it on my forehead and chin-never on my cheeks or near my eye area.

This did not cure my rosacea, but in conjunction with alot of other stuff it is very much in control now. I can even drink wine without flushing-yippeee Very Happy
