Hi Everyone!
I just found this forum a few days ago and it is just fantastic!
I have been hoping to find a resource like this for years.
I just joined and I wanted to reply to a topic in the Skin Care & Makeup forum about natural sunscreens and I wanted to include an image but when I use either the BBCode or HTML image tags, no image shows up in preview.
I checked the FAQ which says to use the BBCode [img] tag, and I did searches and eventually found a few very old threads which indicate at least the BBCode image tag should work.
I even tried posting the same url and code someone showed how to post an image of a cat with but the [img] tag just shows as text with no image and yet the cat image location is valid.
BBCode and HTML are enabled in my profile.
The forum I am trying to post to is the Skin Care & Makeup forum.
I am familiar with BBCode and how to post images, urls and so on.
Am I doing something wrong?
Do images show in a post Preview?
Has it been disabled for everyone?
Is posting of images disabled for new users?
I found nothing definitive in the User Agreement, FAQ, or Guidelines topics and no forum or topic for test posting (sand box) so I am asking here.
Thankyou |

Eek! I'm a technophobe, so I'm afraid I can't help you.
Just wanted to say hi and welcome you to the forum. |

I know that new posters are unable to post links - because this recently happened to me I believe this is to deter spammers.
I didn't try posting an image, so not sure if the it's the same issue.
I'm also unsure what the requirement is to be able to post links - amount of posts - or - time since joined? I wasn't able to locate any info on this either. I just kept trying until one time I was able to post a link. I think it may have been at the 1 month mark that I was able to post links (and it wasn't till that time that I even tried posting an image). And I had over 10 posts the first time I tried to post a link.
hope this helps somewhat.
PS - yes, the images would show in the preview - as long as it was a valid URL with correct tags (which you said you knew how to do so I doubt that was your issue).
Welcome to EDS!
I also was very excited when I discovered this place! |

Thanks for your Welcome majorb and luvmykitties!
Late last night the board was extremely quiet,
so I edited my first post and tried BBCoding an image
and after hitting Submit it said some features are disabled
for new users.
Guilty until proven innocent. (sigh)
I know - it stops spam and many abuses.
It would help if this information is mentioned where it can easily be found.
Under the FAQ where it discusses "Can I post images?" would be a good place.
It would also be good to clarify how the transition from New User to regular user occurs.
When I first tried though, a link I made did show in Preview as if working
but the image did not. |

yup - it shows up in Preview, but when you try to submit you get that error that new users cannot post links.

I agree! Maybe this information could be included in a sticky post in the forums - along with Guidelines? That's the first place I looked.
The FAQ looked like general "php BB" facts. |

I have to use an outside source to post pics. I use PhotoBucket.com, upload the pic, then copy & paste the last link option it gives below the pic.

Welcome to the forum sherianne
We have had big problems with spam (think 50 posts in less than an hour that need to be manually deleted one by one ) so this is unfortunately an anti-spam measure. I wish it wasn't required but it is and it makes life a lot easier. I see all the spam that gets filtered out daily thanks to this little restriction and there is LOADS of it. The relatively clean forum we have is thanks in part to this rule.
You should be getting a message when you try to submit that as a new member your links are disabled. I'd prefer not to articulate the details of this in an FAQ somewhere as it allows others to by-pass the spam filtering.
I hope this explains more of why this is in place.
