Hi,
I am 29 and I have always had acne. I've been on accutane, had injections, tons of prescriptions drugs - you name it i either took it or put it on my face!
I have been using Mary Kay which helped the acne but didn't get rid of it and now I am ready for a new line. (I'd like to stick to one line of products instead of mixing them up).
In addition to being acne prone, I am noticing that my pores are really large and I have some fine lines. Oh, and dark circles under my eyes!
A few lines I am thinking of are: Cosmedicine, MD Formulations, Bliss and Dr. Brandt. I would love some input here. Even it it's not one of these lines, I am up to try anything. Thank you! |

Maybe you've already tried it, but I've had success with Proactiv, and know personally many other people who have had similar success, my sister for one. Our skin is different (hers oily, mine dry), but we had the same results. It really did get rid of our acne. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you! |

Thank you violetanne.
I used Proactiv and was very happy with it for a year or more but then it seemed to stop working - that's when I tried Mary Kay. I actually still have some here maybe I should give it another try. Do you notice it doing anything for your pores - like making them smaller? Thank you so much for your input. |

I haven't used any of the lines you've mentioned but I have tried my share of products and medications (excluding Accutane) and can share some things that worked for me. First off, I stopped washing my face 3 times a day to keep it feeling "clean" and I stopped using a bunch of different products which just kept aggravating my skin and stuck to a simple routine. I gave myself nightly steams with a hot towel and sometimes added in some essential oils and then massaged in some rosehip oil before bed. I switched to only organic skin care lines like Dr Hauschka and Primavera and switched my makeup as well. I began to drink more water and began to exercise more reguarly to increase the activity level in my life. I also did a complete change in my diet sticking to mostly organic foods as well (Hey I don't believe in total avoidance. I still enjoy a Coke every now and then among other so called "bad foods" here and there. Total deprivation is no fun at all. LOL ) I also focused on relaxing activites like Yoga and Hiking to reduce the stress in my life as stress plays a major role in acne and I just kept affirming to myself that I had great skin and finally that day came. I still may get a pimple every now and the around "that time" of the month but other than that I can now go out without a stitch of makeup and feel totally confident in the knowledge that I once again have flawless skin. My best advice is try not to worry about it as all that stress and worry will just make it worse and definitely try the nightly steams as I think they were the best trick. I also know of a couple of ladies who tried Proactiv and it did work for them but as soon as they stopped using the product the acne returned. I wasn't willing to make that committment. (I bore easily) |

Hi KNFN! I know how you feel--- I'm 24, and I can't remember a time when I didn't have acne. ARGH!! I think that Dr. Brandt is a good line, but it's waaaay overpriced--- you can do a lot better for less. And as for Cosmedicine and Bliss, well, I think they are just mainly overpriced. All the good advice from the people on this board has REALLY gotten my acne under control--- I actually can't remember the last time I had one of those deep, cystic blemishes. What a relief! If you really want to start getting your acne under control, I would HIGHLY recommend looking into Dr. Hauschka, Juice Beauty, PSF, Zenbiotic, and Dermadoctor. All of these lines have some real powerhouse acne fighters, and if you combine them with a DIY aspirin mask and an O2 serum from either PSF or Zenbiotic... frankly, I think you'll be amazed. HTH! |

wildflower - we have a few things in common!
I too stoped washing my face all the time. I only wash it at night now and just flush it with water in the morning. Yep, I have tried to stick to a simple routine which is why I mentioned staying with one product line. I have started drinking more water and now I work out at the gym and take pilates. I stress all the time, about everything ecspecially my face...I really obsess over it! The gym and pilates have helped me refocus which is great.
You and manslayerliz both mentioned Dr. Hauschka so maybe i should give that line a try. Thank you both very much! |

Hi again! No worries--- your questions are more than welcome. How do you think we learned?^-^ If you are interested in Dr. Hauschka (GREAT brand), I would recommend trying the Oily Skin Trial Tin. My top 2 Dr. H products are DEFINITELY the Cleansing Cream and the Toner. (I'm sooo in love with the toner--- I sometimes even use it midday!) The cleansing cream takes a bit of getting used to, since you use it AFTER your cleanser, and instead of scrubbing you kind of press it into your skin. It leaves your skin feeling quite moisturized, but I've found that the extra moisture actually helps to control oil and acne. I also think that the Dr. H normalizing day oil would be a great product to try (it's also in the tin). I swear by PSF's Balancing Oil, and I've heard those two products are similar. Let us know if you have any more questions!^-^ |

manslayerliz - Thank you.
I also just checked out the other lines you mentioned and Juice Beauty intrigues me too - they seem to have a lot of products specifically for acne. (I should have looked at ALL the lines BEFORE i wrote my last post - i got excited though!) Two last questions for you
1 - Out of Dr. H & Juice Beauty who would you recommend I try first?
2 - If you think i should try Juice Beauty could you tell me what products?
I know listing them is a pain and I really appreciate it! |

KNFN--- Oh, what a tough call!! It's really 6 to one half dozen to the other---they are both INCREDIBLE lines. I guess it comes down to what products in your lineup you consider the most "replaceable" right now. If you aren't in love with what your current toner and exfoliant are doing, go for Dr. H (you can actually try a lot of great D. H products in the Dr. H oily skin kit for a very reasonable price.). On the other hand, if you are looking for something to treat active blemishes and clogged pores, go for the Juice Beauty Blemish serum and the Green Apple Peel. (I have the delicious green apple peel sitting on my face right now, and I can feel all the gunk coming out of my face... what a great feeling^-^)
If, you decide you'd like to try one product from each line, I'd prolly recommend the Dr. H Clarifying Toner and the Juice Beauty Blemish Serum. Or, you could even just try a single product, and request samples of other products you are interested in--- EDS will usually send them if they have them.
Hope this helps--- don't forget to try the aspirin mask as this REALLY boosts the effectiveness of your other products, IMO. |

I really like the green apple peel as well and my skin is very clear and smooth after I use it. No oilies or breakouts at all, although I'm not sure if it's an actual "peel" or not, at least not with me. I have not experienced any peeling with it, but it does do wonders for the skin! |

No, Proactiv doesn't do much in the way of shrinking pores-- not mine, anyway. I only have noticable ones on my nose, though. I use other things for that, kaolin scrubs and peels. |

Dr. Hauschka has really helped my acne-prone, oily skin. I've found my body reacts much better to natural products and natural foods. |
