Hi ladies,
Was wondering if yall tone after you use a serum? i have been applying a serum right after cleansing as instructed by both skinceuticals and dhc, but they also advise me to tone afterwards. i kinda see that is overkill so i don't tone. what do you all do? |

I actually spritz toner on first then use a serum. The ingredients in the toner, like aloe, actually help products absorb better. Having a damp face also makes a serum more spreadable too. |

But then there are some serums that you don't use a toner with at all, like IS Clinical Proheal or Active. |

What are the reasons for not using toner before Active or Proheal? I thought we supposed to use toner after cleansing to help adjust the skin's PH balance and get rid of last trace of dirt... |

I generally don't use toner but when I do I apply it after actives (Differin, Proheal) and I do not use a cotton to apply I just put it in the palms of my hands and dab on my face.
I think that it depends on the toner. If the toner has mostly cleansing ingredients then I think you would be able to use it before actives and serums. But if the toner has too many ingredients that will coat your skin then you are putting a barrier between your skin and the serum so that the actives will not penetrate properly. However, if you are working up to using an active ingredient or you are trying to buffer an active then it might not be a bad thing to have something else on your skin first.
I think that if you apply toner after actives and serums then you have to be careful that you are not rubbing the actives off your face. I guess misting and my patting onto skin technique would be preferable to using a cotton. |

Very interesting. I am not sure what kind of serum i have but yeah i am afraid to wipe off any serum (expensive stuff) so i just skip toning all together. lately, i haven't toned at all since i use different serums day and night. it's costing me considerably more money but i think my skin has gotten better since using serums day and night. |
