any suggestions? I absolutely hate the smelly chemical smell from self-tanners. I am interested in a gradual "tan". I've used Jergen's Natural Glow and Loreal's Sublime Glow. They both stink!! Plus I get an orangey tan in 2 hrs. despite the fact the it is supposed to take a few days for the color to develop! I thought I read somewhere thaat there is a gradual self-tanner that doesn't smell. Does anyone know??
TIA!

I dont know of any tanner without that aweful smell. What I do is use natural glow during the night and have a shower in the morning. |

I think they all have a scent to some extent, but the one I smell the least is the Hawaiin Tropic one. Sublime Glow is my favorite right now for color though. HT takes forever to get some color and I don't like applying this stuff every day. |

I'm using Coppertone right now and the smell if any is pretty darn subtle. They have separate self tanners for face and body and its a very natural golden color on both accounts. So the danger of turning yourself into a brassy orange buddha is slim. (without the belly of course) |

The Dove one has only a tiny trace of fake tan smell. |

Thanks. I've decided to try Banana Boat and see. If that stinks too bad, I will try Dove and after that, I give up!! I look so pasty that I really need to take the edge off my whiteness!! The smell of the banana boat wasn't bad in the bottle but we'll see how it smells after I apply it!
Thanks!

I can't stand the smell of the L'Oreal Sublime Glow lotion on my skin either. But I tried the L'Oreal towelettes and they don't smell bad at all on my skin. I use the medium body ones for my body and the light/medium facial ones for my face. They don't cause me to have break-outs either, and my face breaks out rather easily. I use them at night (after showering and exfoliating) and then shower in the morning before leaving the house.
I just bought some of the Aveeno gradual tanner lotion, and I don't notice any stench with it. Even though the lotions are messier and more of a pain to apply, they seem to be more moisturizing for my skin, so tend to work better in the long run. The resulting color seems to work well on me, so I think I'll stick with this one for a while. Or maybe rotate between the L'Oreal towelettes and the Aveeno lotion. Well, anyway, I'm afraid to put any lotions on my face, so for sure I'll be sticking with the towelettes for my face.
BTW--I tried the Hawaiian Tropic gradual tanner lotion because it got such good reviews here, but I found that it was a little drying on my skin and I ended up with splotchy patches, something I don't get with the other products I've tried. I even tried using the HT and then applying a coat of jojoba oil or some lotion for extra moisturizing, but for some reason the HT just didn't seem to sink into my skin and tan evenly.
On another post, Darren mentioned adding 1 t. pure vanilla extract to a bottle of lotion to mask the odor. This helped me a little with the L'Oreal lotion, but the main odor resulted after the "chemical reaction" occurred on my skin and the vanilla only helped temporarily.
I think we just have to experiment with different products to find the one that "agrees" with our body chemistry and leaves our skin that perfect sought-after color! |

I would agree with the Dove one, it gives a gradual tan & doesn't have a very overpowering smell imo. Another good one, that I like better than Dove, is Johnson's Holiday Skin which gives a really nice, natural tan. I'm not sure if this is available where you live though?, I'm in Australia |

Seeking~HG - I was just at Kroger and I checked out the Submlime towlettes and they were $10 for 6! I thought I would give them a go too, but I can get many more applications out of the lotion than just 6. Besides, I really don't notice the tanner smell that much with the Sumblime lotion. Maybe I'm just getting used to it after trying all of these! |

Yea, they're a little expensive, but worth the extra $ just because they're so much easier to use (& less messy!). I wait until they're on sale and then stock up. (Walgreens usually has them on sale every so often.) I even found a $1.00 off coupon in the Sunday newspaper once, so I bought a few newspapers that day just for the coupons and used the coupon on top of the sale price.
BTW--Does anyone know if Costco carries a brand of the self tanner? I was thinking that the price would be better there, and they usually screen their products and offer only high quality items. I let my membership expire there, but I might go renew it if they have a good buy on tanning products |

NEWSFLASH--
I just looked at the Walgreens sales ad, and all L'Oreal Sublime Bronze products are on sale right now--2 for 1! This would be a great time for people to try the towelettes. You can purchase a box of the body ones and then get a box of the face ones for free! |

I use mystic fresh post-sunless body freshining spray.
It says it works by capturing and encapsulating the reaction odor caused by the gradual darkining of the skin.
It works for my mystic and Jergens tan. You have to wait one hour after you tan. But you do have to spray it on several times a day.
And I know it's not ruining my tan. |
