I am sending some Parma Violet sweets over to a friend in Canada and just wondered what other sweets and chocolate is unavailable over there.
Is Cadbury's?
What about Milky Way, Maltesers, curly Wurly etc? |

Hey there,
I was just in Canada and my hubby is Canadian. They definately have Cadbury's but it just isn't the same. Gotta have it from Australia. They love Tim Tams but you can't buy them over there any more so send those.
Not sure about the others. Hubby says he can't remember about Malteasers and he's never heard of Curly Wurly's. I'd definately go some Cadbury's and Tim Tams.

Hi Rosebud,
Although I'm not a big sweet eater, I agree with Julliams...Cadbury's in Canada is not nearly as good as the Cadbury's from England. Sooo for sure your friend's will thank you for a 'taste of home'  I'd also chuck in a few Mars bars while your at it

| we have Malteasers....costco sells them....I love them. We also have whoppers which are pretty similar. |

there are a few of the cadbury's bars that we don't get here... falke and double decker are two that come to mind.
sherbet fountains.
not a sweet, but it's hard to find good mushy peas here
in vancouver there are a number of shops that sell tim tams, you just need to know where to look--the price isn't even outrageous!

What no decent Mushy Peas!!!!
Here in the North we are the masters of Mushy Peas!!!! I like to make my own but you can't beat the Mushy Peas you get from the Fish and Chip Shop.....Majorb I know will agree on this one 
Thanks for all your answers, I really do think Flakes should be available everywhere, they don't seem to be that popular here anymore and whatever happened to the Cadbury Flake TV adverts?? I think Cadbury's only advertise with Coronation street

Sorry, rosebud, I'm originally from about as far north in England as you can get and I hate mushy peas. Bleurgghhh!!!!
Then again, Geordies tend not to be classed as proper English people so that may explain it.
Can I just ask, though, what the heck are Tim Tams? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm missing out on something important, obsessed with chocolate and sweets as I am. Are they something I need to get my paws on and eat immediately? |

mmm cadbury flake
for the uninitiated, it's paper thin layers of chocolate all folded up into a cylinder--like, phyllo pastry, but in chocolate.. *sigh*
major b, a tim tam is an australian invention, it's a cross between a chocolate bar and a cookie.
two rectagles of a crisp chocolate cookie, this is filled with a light chocolate mousy cream, like a sandwich and then the whole thing is covered in chocolate. there are several variations, dark chocolate, double-dipped (which has twice as much chocolate coating) um, there are others, but they escape me at the moment.
are you in vancouver? i forget. anyway, if you are meinhart's on granville and 12th have them as do most of the great canadian superstores. |

Yes, Cadburys in North America just isn't the same. You can occasionally find Cadbury Flakes, but you can never find Cadbury Twirls (which are one of my personal favourites).
I also like Galaxy bars (the plain milk chocolate ones), which are not available in North America (there may be something called Galaxy, I can't remember, but it is definitely not what is sold in Britain. |

Unfortunately, I'm not in Vancouver, but would certainly be prepared to go to that shop there in order to buy some of those Tim Tams (or to Australia, for that matter). They sound delicious.
Anyway, commiserations to all of you who have to eat inferior Cadbury's and Galaxy. But be cheered by the fact that you can get Lindt over there - which actually tastes far nicer than any of our English chocolate. |
