first of all, i *must* have my one cup of coffee every morning or i'd die. after that, though, i absolutely can't have any more caffeine and even the decaf stuff has trace amounts so i limit that to special dinners and whatnot. i've been searching for decaf or herbal teas to satisfy that need/craving during the day to no avail.
i just got back from scotland, visiting my BF's folks and they drink tea six to eight times a day. not drinking with them seemed rude, so i explained my dilemna. his mum poured some skim milk in a cup, then threw in a Rooibos tea bag, poured the hot water in and voila! it was love at first cup.
my question is this -- is it actually *good* for you? i've seen a few things on the net, but it is always in conjunction with the selling of a tea so i take the 'miracles' with a grain of salt. does anybody drink this? has it made any difference?
TIA |

Someone actually sent me some of this tea as a "throw-away" item in an MUA swap and I've brewed it up good and strong and have been using it in my ACV super toner as there was a post/thread regarding the benefits of this tea here on the forum about a year ago. You might want to do a search using the name as the keyword and see what results come back.... |

I have been drinking Roobos tea on and off for several years now, it used to be so expensive but now that brands like Tetley have started to do Roobos tea (Roobos and Vanilla I have sitting in my cupboard) it has become much more 'normally priced' as far as tea goes and I can buy it from the supermarket as well as the health stores
Roobos is also known as African Red Tea:
Red Tea contains magnesium, which is necessary for a healthy nervous system.
• Red Tea increases the absorption of iron in the body.
• Red Tea contains potassium and copper minerals that are necessary for several metabolic functions.
• Red Tea is often prescribed for nervous tension and mild depression as it makes a relaxing sedative.
• Red Tea contains no oxalic acid and can therefore be enjoyed by persons suffering from kidney stones.
• Red Tea helps to control your appetite thus can be beneficial in weight loss.
• Red Tea makes a great thirst-quencher and sport drink.
In skincare:
"it contains large amounts of Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Zinc for a healthy, smooth skin. It is especially useful for itching, skin rashes and eczema. It penetrates and nourishes your skin like no other lotion can. It is excellent in helping wounds to heal, and helps to reduce inflamation caused by arthritic conditions."
Here is a site that specialises in products containing Roobos, gives you an idea of how to encorperate into the homemade skincare recipes:
http://www.africanredtea.com/purchase-soap.html
I have been known to pop a couple of Roobos tea bags into my bath, also good for making up facial spritzers and toners for sensitive skins.
I have to say I can take it or leave it because of the taste and go through phases where I think it's delicious and at other times where I become bored of the taste.
I just always have some in the cupboard |

It's one of the very few things that tastes nice AND is good for you.
I usually avoid tea like the plague, but even I enjoy Rooibus tea. |

I love rooibos tea, you can also make a really nice iced tea with some flavoured rooibos teas (or with plain I would imagine). My current favourite is a blend of rooibos and honeybush teas with peach and plum, which is intended to be an iced tea. It is absolutely delicious, it has some natural sweetness and is so refreshing. I buy loose leaf teas, so it is not from a brand that I could recommend to anyone, but if you have a local tea shop, you could see if they have any (or encourage them to find a supplier). |

Numi makes a good red african rooibos. This is an organic brand that is available in a lot of gracery stores... I was big on the rooibos tea awhile back, drank it everyday, and now for some reason I can't stand it. Too much of a good thing, I suppose.
An interesting thing about rooibos is that is supposed to have more antioxidants than green or white tea. Also, it will never get bitter no matter how long you steep it. |

i read that and was completely amazed that i'd actually found something i liked and was good for me! green tea, good green tea, is so bloody expensive.... i actually came back with two boxes and had my boyfriend bring me back three others as he was *in* South Africa at the time of my discovery. nothing flavoured, though, and i've not seen this tea anywhere in Paris. i will take Emma_Jane's advice and make some iced tea from it. as for the steeping, i do indeed just leave the tea bag in the entire time i'm drinking it and it tastes as good at the last drop! i may get sick of it as some of you have, but for now it's a godsend whilst i'm dieting. my boyfriend has his afternoon Guiness and i have my rooibos tea. now if only i can make the iced tea a fulfilling substitute for my wine during supper.... |

That's actually the reason I added it to my personal ACV toner recipe in lieu of the green tea I used to use.... |

Ever since trying Rooibos tea in South Africa I was hooked. I absolutely love it!! Besides it have a very unique and delicious taste, it is such a healthy tea with lots of goodies to rave about. And it does indeed make a great iced tea! Fabulous in the summer. Hmm - in fact this gives me a craving so I think I'll go and steep some while I read the rest of the forum posts. And for anyone who is interested in learning what benefits this tea has, here is a link:

I'm also part of the red tea fan club. Lots of antioxidants, no caffeine, and no calories! In the summer I love it iced--- I always keep a pitcher of iced tea on the fridge, so I generally rotate between green, rooibos, and herbals like mint, chamomile, etc. If you would like to try flavored rooibos, I highly recommend the tea site adagio.com. You can order a sample tin of any flavor for like, $2. (The sample tin alone lasts me a long time...) There's a tea on adagio.com called Foxtrot, and it's a blend of rooibos, chamomile, and mint. The three go really well together! |

I love rooibos. I can't have caffiene, it messes with my heart rate too much.
I get mine from The Republic of Tea. They have several to choose from. I have a shelf full of them now. I put 4 bags in a jug full of water, let it steep in the fridge and drink it cold. I drink the Get Some ZZZ's one hot.

Rooibus is a great tea. I love that I can have it anytime because it doesn't have caffiene. White tea is my favorite, but rooibus is a close second. |

Wow, Roibos tea sure got popular fast. I'd never heard of it until I tried "African Amber" on a cruise ship and it was the most delicious herbal tea I'd ever tasted. I've been ordering it from ML teas ever since.
Now I'll have to try honeybush because I like the name. |

I've just been drinking rooibos with vanilla, by celestial seasonings and it's delicious - I think it's a good way to satisfy a sweet tooth without calories. |

Thanks a lot for the listing of all health benefits of Rooibos tea. I love this tea. Did you know Rooibos tea isn't actually a tea. It''s made from a entirely other plant, Fynbos. As a result it's classified as a legume?! Cool huh. |

rooibios, both green and red teas have been my staple for over a year now. I love to brew fresh leaves along with mint leaves for a super refreshing combo. In addition to the healthful benefits, it's a great introductory tea to kids and adults who think they don't "like tea".
A great source for tea iswww.mountainroseherbs.com
P.S. I drink it iced --- rarely drink hot tea, unless it's really chilly outside or I'm not feeling too well. Both are relatively rare occasions. |

I've just been getting into drinking rooibos tea more regularly for the health benefits...I did not fall in love with the flavor right away (probably because I'm used to green teas, and the rooibos is a stronger flavor), but I've definitely developed a taste for it.
Rooibos with vanilla...that sounds tempting. I'm adding that one to my grocery list. |

I'm a tea addict. I could never get through an entire day without a cup of freshly-brewed loose tea. The smell alone is enough to make my mouth water and the delicious sensation of fresh hot tea sliding down my throat is something that I always take time to relish during my tea break. Rooibos is a flavorful, caffeine-free alternative to tea for those seeking to eliminate caffeine intake. It has anti-carcinogenic and antimutagenic effects. Rooibos tea is used for anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. |

Just FYI:
Rooibos is an Afrikaans (one of South Africa's 11 official lanquages) word meaning red (rooi) bush (bos).
Generally, the leaves are oxidized, which produces the distinctive reddish-brown colour of rooibos and enhances the flavour.

Green Rooibos tea is supposed to have even more antioxidants than regular rooibos! I've tried it and like it too. |
