I am researching intense pulsed light therapy, in particular one called FotoFacial RF but any IPL experience is welcome. I have large pores on my cheeks, sunspots, and slight horizontal forehead lines.
Is it better to invest in topical products claiming to rectify these areas, or invest in IPL which claims to go deeper to stimulate collagen renewal and use topical products to maintain the skin? |

I have had the Palomar a few times and love it. Last week I had it on a couple of dime size pigmentation marks [from the sun] and within two days they had 'risen to the top' ... looks like a scab. And now one week later they have fallen off and no pigmentation.
Now I wear a TON of sunscreen. |

It will not eliminate pores nor lines. It can minimize temporarily (for some people) the pore size and help with very fine lines, again in some cases. I've had 6 now and it does plump up the skin and reuce broken caps, rosacea and give skin a better look overall. I would have something done combined with a retinol/peel product to help with the lines and pores. |

I was reading the 'bad reaction to IPL, please help'.
Does the laser setting increase after every visit? Is the pain similar to laser hair removal? It hurt like crazy when my underarms and bikini were done but the RN who did it had really good patient care. And one final question for now, are the post laser bruises quite noticeable where makeup is needed to hide it? There is supposed to be very little down time.
Thanks!! |

It is going to vary from person to person on the bruising as everyone has a different reaction. It depends on if you bruise easily. The setting does not have to be incresed at all. My tech does a spot check to see the reaction first. |

Not being a doc I hate to say, but I don't think the reaction is longterm. Nerves and caps do grow back and just takes a while for damaged skin to recover. It will probably make your skin temporarily more sensitive to products, at least it does mine. You might talk to the person who did it about your results. |

Thanks for starting this thread, roadbee...
i was planning to have IPL in the fall, and now i see i have research to do first to see if this is right for me...
someone says this causes scabs, something i wanted to avoid. the technician told me no, it does -- it just slowly fades the spot
can someone comment on this? |

I did not have scabs so it's hard to say what those would be. All said and done, I will definately keep doing them. |
