This is such a great forum, I wish I had stumbled onto you much earlier than now.
I just turned 30 and decided that I needed to get my skin care routine in gear. Not that I really neglected it before, but it just really focused on acne and sunscreen. I just switched to the SkinCeuticals line (I am not very exciting, using all one brand) So, I'll tell you about my skin and tell you what I am using now and please feel free to make any suggestions.
I am fairly fair and have combination skin leaning towards very oily whenever I am under a lot of stress. I have always had a problem with acne, although it has eased up tremendously the last few years and I rarely have anything now. I have used retin A on and off since high school and have been using retin A micro for the past two years. I do have some discoloration on my cheekbones, some freckles and some faint acne scarring. Under and at the corners of my eyes are the only places that I have very, very faint wrinkles.
Here is my new regimen:
Morning
cleanse
SC Serum 20
SC vit C eye gel
SC Phyto +
SC Physical defence SPF 30
Evening
Cleanse
SC eye renewal gel
Retin A or SC Intense Line Defense
SC Phyto+
SC Renew Overnight
So that is it. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cleanser? Something that will take my makeup off, get the oil off, but not strip my face?
Are the retin A and the Line defence basically doing the same thing? Is there any point in alternating nights or should I continue with this?
Do you have any other comments or suggestions? I am really quite the minamalist when it comes to makeup and skin care, so this is a lot for me, but I am determined to keep my youthful skin as long as I can.
Thanks!!

Thanks,

Hi Abejita
Welcome to the forum!
I am not a 100% sure, but I believe that Intense Line Defense contains hydroxy acids (5 types) for exfoliation, rather than Retin A.
I notice that you do not use Hydra B5 in your regime - I guess you must be worried about your skin getting too oily - but do watch for the hydration level as Vit C is known to dehydrate.
If you have brown spots and oily skin, you may want to add Phyto + to your regime as it known to lighten these brown spots as well as balance your skin.
As for Cellex C's Betaplex - I have used the milk version for my dry skin - together with its complexion mist - it is very clarifying and you do feel very clean after that, but I found it too drying for my skin. You may not have this problem though.
Cheers
Jenny

Here are a few good, balancing cleansers for you to consider: Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, MD Formulations Cleanser with Glycolic Acid, Yonka Cleansing Gel, Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 3% Facial Wash, or Decleor Foaming Cleanser. When your skin becomes more oily, I would simply recommend using a mattifying product where needed. Peter Thomas Roth's Oil Control Blotting Sheets, or Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel would be good options.
Retin-A and Intense Line Defense are NOT the same thing. Prescription retinol is more exfoliating than the AHA's in Intense Line Defense. If you're finding the Retin-A too irritating, try using only the Line Defense. However, I suggest that you consult the prescribing doctor first, before discontinuing what has been prescribed for you. |

For all of your responses. I will definitely give some of these a try.
Jenny, I do use the B5 gel occasionally. I think that I will start using it on a regular basis, as it does not make my face too oily.
The Retin A does not irritate my face at all. Does anyone know of the long term effects of using Retin A? Is it good to use over a long period (years) because it is such a good exfoliator or does it begin to have negative side effects.
Thanks, you have been a great help!!
