Ok, I understand that when you gain weight rapidly you can get them. But after gaining about 20 lb over one year and I have now lost 30 lb and plan to lose another 20 lb, I noticed some faint ones on my arms today and am freaking out. (yes, i've got other ones all over too).
Can you get them from LOSING weight too? I'm not losing weight rapidly, just a steady slow weight loss. Are the ones from losing weight as bad or worse than the ones from gaining weight?

I'm so mad at myself for gaining weight in the first place - if I had of known about the stretch marks!!!! ARGH!

Stretch marks are a mystery to me. I've been pretty much the same size all my adult life. I'm not at all overweight (in fact, my family sometimes comments that I'm underweight), and yet sometimes stretch marks show up on my hips for no reason, argh!! So, if you find anything that works for them, please let me know...

The bad news - Yup it can happen when you lose wight too. It all comes down too the amount of elasticity in your skin, hence the term "stretch" marks. The skin doesn't just stretch with weight gain, it happens constantly through life. Another result of losing this elasticity is sagging and loose skin so the best thing to do is to prevent stretch marks and sagging skin by supplementing with essential fatty acids and GLAs and using products like Rose Hip oil which help retain skin elasticity as well as promoting healthy skin and new cell regeneration. But alas, it still happens no matter what. Just a fact of life for some of us I guess.

yes you can get strechmarks by losing weight.. i lost 10lbs a couple years ago and ended up with so many stretch marks on my hips and thighs.. i havent found any creams to get rid of them.. i always wanted to try mederma but i cant find it in canada. u can just make it less apparent by 'filling it' with muscle.. weight train! and slather tons of vitamin e, cocoa butter, rosehip oil? creams on it all the time

I lost a bunch of weight before and never got stretch marks from losing, so hopefully this time will be the same. I can't believe that in 2006 they can find all these cures for diseases and almost make flying gas-less cars, but they can't find a cure for stretch marks? Come on!

And after careful inspection I think they MIGHT just be the swirly pigment issues I have on my legs. But I could be wrong. They are very faint. Could they get worse if they are just faint right now?

lol im sure they have solutions and cures.. they just dont want to give them out cause they want to make more $$$$$ off everyone while they still can.. keeping people in the dark for corperate profit.. blah blah blah that kinda stuff

what do you mean by swirlies, just marbled white and pink skin? if you do some stuff do get your circulation going that may disappear.. eg: in the shower alternating with hot and cold water so shock ur circulation.. i was told to do this to get rid of the blotchy red/white in my skin.. hth

although if they are "rings" (like the age rings that trees have lol) i dont think you can do anything about those.. those are stretch marks.. the only thing you can do is catch it early and treat it before it gets worse.. cause if you leave it it will harden into white and silvery lines and those are even more difficult to deal with

no - it is a wierd pigment thingy I have called macular amyloidosis cutaneous. Hard to explain, kind of looks like stretch marks, but very thin and caused by protein globules rising to the surface of the skin causing brown tiny tiny dots. I guess they rise to the surface in between my stretch marks? or in the pattern of stretch marks? Hard to say. Anyway, its all very depressing.

Going to manifest that they go away or at least don't get any worse, and am going to try all the things that the Female First girls suggest on their boards.

stretch marks happen due to weight gain and weight loss. I've had my stretch marks since puberty when my breasts and hips began growing and i was becomming more of a woman.

I have not tried it, but heard positive things of copper peptides and stretch mark removal/scar removal. As far as I've understood it's talk about skin remodeling, (new skin?) hence stretch marks fading. Perhaps one of the copper peptide girls could fill in. Smile

i wonder how the celebrities do it? Some of them gain tons of weight for movie roles and then lose it. For example Renee Zellwegar.
I never hear them having stretch marks, they must have some special cream or doctor that helps them get rid of stretch marks

if you moisturise your skin well while the skin is going through the 'stretch' period, then you could avoid getting them. If you do not wish to buy anything specially for this, you could always massage your skin with olive oil. It is one of the best oils for the skin.
If you are happy to spend money, then decleor's prolagene gel is good for stretch marks. So is using tonilastil cream.
